It depends on what you mean by "spying". If you mean they are analyzing the data sent and received by your phone, then most certainly that's what they are doing. It's trivial for them to determine that you're tethering based on your internet traffic. For example, are automatic updates enabled for Windows on your laptop? As soon as it pings Microsoft's server to see if there are new updates then it is apparent you are tethering. Same goes for every antivirus program, browsers like Firefox and Chrome, and any of thousands of other Windows programs (flash, java, etc) that check for updates. There are certain URLs your phone would never be visiting that a Windows (or OSX) machine would hit on a daily basis.

Also your web browser reports the user-agent string every single time you visit a web page that indicates what type of system, browser, etc, you are running. And that is just the blatantly obvious stuff.

Is it possible to manage all of those things? Certainly, if you're very, very thorough, and ideally start with a stripped down system. But then there would be more subtle things that you cannot control. For example, if you visit a website from a laptop, it will process the data and request all the resources (individual images, etc) on that page very, very fast, and all in parallel. The browser built in your phone will process much slower. Try it. Pull up a page on your tethered laptop, then pull up the exact same page in IE or Opera on your TP2. You'll see your laptop loaded much faster even though the data rate is exactly the same. If your phone is requesting data from websites faster than your model phone can process it, then they would also know you are tethering. Now I really doubt they go that far - there is plenty of low-hanging fruit, since probably 99% of tethered laptops are flat-out reporting that they are a Windows machine every time you access a page via the user-agent string. But my point is if they get clever, then it would be much more difficult to hide the fact that you are tethering.

Re: |RHODIUM CDMA|.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.- Energy -.¸¸.·´¯ * |Mar 15| 21916|29017 * Sense 20

Hi everyone. Going to flash my first non-stock rom since I had my Apache in 2007.

I have a Rhodium (Sprint branded) that's currently running the stock 6.5 ROM.

Anyhow here are my questions:

1. My desire is to run the latest "Energy" style ROM with cookie 2.0. I assume this file is:

Energy.RHODCDMA.29017.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Mar.21.7 z

2. Bluetooth working is really important to me. I use the Plantronics Discovery 975 and the SYNC system in my Ford 2010 Escape. Anyone use these bluetooth devices successfully with the latest Energy ROM?

3. Is carrier provisioning required once the Energy ROM is loaded? Since i have Sprint I think not?

4. I did my best to read the steps to this and I believe they are:

Backup
Use unlocker at: rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/hard-spl.php
Put phone in bootloader, run task29, put into bootloader again, run RhodiumCDMA_SoftwareUpgrade.exe (run from a PC connected to phone)

Sounds right?

If things dont work out (like Bluetooth not working) and I need to go back, I assume I flash stock ROM, relock, and flash stock ROM again?

Thanks for the great thread, very helpful...

#1: yes that is the latest.
#2: bluetooth works well. there are some issues with a delayed hangup with bluetooth.

Your steps for flashing are correct.
I would suggest right after Nrg flash you do a hard rest just to be safe. Do this before any customization.

Provisioning is not needed if you are on sprint. Beleive sprint is built in by default.

Ahh, so no cookie 1.8.5? That's too bad, glad I was able to nab one while they were out though.

After switching back to 1.8.5, I can't believe I allowed myself to use a cookie 2.0 rom, they're so buggy and slow on the Rhodium.

21march ROMs partial Changelog

Flashed 29017 CHT2.0 21march rom.

Everything is fine: it is an update of the best rom we had until now.

Changelog (partial...these are the things i noticed):

- Total Commander version upgraded
- Action Screen with colored glossy icons
- Changes in Theme (Up button when you are in the upper directory; i prefer old version)

Thank you very much NRGZ!!!

having issue with wifi router.
It connects and works but when the backlight goes out and the device locks, i
I loose the connection.
Do I need the wifi on standby installed to keep the wifi router connected when device goes to standby?

Thought wifi router already did this.

Am looking forward to flashing the new roms tonight.

Thanks all.

two ways to handle this, in CHT you have the option to enable wifi on in standby, and if that doesn't work then there is a cab file in the paperclip for the thread that has a cab for wifi on when in standby, one of those will work.
