I have not had a problem at all syncing my Touch with my Vista Business PC at work, or with my Vista Premium PC at home. I was thinking that it might help if you removed the Sync Partnership from your Vista PC to your Touch and opened WMDC to give you step by step directions. And damned if my Touch was no longer syncing correctly either...
WMDC shows my Touch not synced, hasn't since 1/18/2008. But I can access it through My Computer and can install applications via USB from the PC. Very strange. |

the only thing that stinks.. is it takes a bit to sync... i know it is petty, and in the scheme of things... nothing... but still, to have to wait 5-6 minutes for it to first connect, then sync... makes me not do it too often...
if it were 20 seconds... now we are talking... (the sync process isnt what takes long, it is getting active sync up and running/connected that does) p |

I restarted my PC and then reconnected my Touch, which at least allowed me to sync. Though when I opened WMDC I did not see my phone but rather an error. I also could not access any of my sync settings. So I unplugged my Touch from the USB connection and deleted the partnership on my PC. I then plugged the Touch back into USB and I still get an error with WMDC.
I guess now I need to uninstall WMDC and reinstall that, to start over from scratch on the PC side. If that does not work, I will try it with my laptop, which dual boots XP Media Center Edition and Vista Premium. |

Ok, before I actually uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC I disconnected my Touch from the USB and then reconnected it. Low and behold, WMDC picked it up and asked if I wanted to setup a new partnership with it. I did and after multiple disconnects and reconnects, it is still syncing correctly.
So here is what I did when I could not get it to sync: 1. Disconnected the Touch from USB 2. Deleted the Partnership on the PC (leaving the sync file folder) 3. Reconnected the Touch with USB 4. Waited for a few minutes, then disconnected the Touch again 5. Connected the Touch via USB again, and setup a new Partneship on the PC I even named the Partnership the same as it was before and it automatically synced back all my files. I wasn't that worried about Contacts and stuff because I sync to an Exchange server for one of my email accounts. Try following those steps exactly and let us know what happens. |

the green swirly should be there all the time, not just when you are syncing.. mine is present right now... no way to turn it off! that is a problem in and of itself, if you dont have the icon....
are you sure you have WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICE CENTER installed? again, once it is installed properly, it will always be present down by your CLOCK on the task bar (make sure you have all icons visible, right click task bar, properties, notification area, UNCHECK "hide inactive icons" ) pj |

I had this problem but it only started when I upgraded to Vista Device Center 6.1. My Touch was working fine on 6.0. One day I noticed there was a new version. After installing, my device was no longer recognized by the system.
Long story short, I Googled for the old 6.0, installed it and was back up and running. Couple of months later I accidentally installed 6.1 again (via Windows Update) and it broke again... |

I know this will sound stupid, but anyways... it won't work if you plug the splitter cable (headphone/charger). It was dark in I plugged in the splitter instead of direct usb cable. haha gave me fits. That's what I get for a moment of stupidity.
