If this is true, why can't you simply flash a GSM ROM to a CDMA phone and vice versa? Doing this will brick the phone. You can't because it has to do with hardware other than the antenna.

Again, QUOTE FROM HTC...

"As I previously mentioned, the hardware in your device is identical to that of the GSM sister with the difference of the Cellular antenna."

No idea on why a ROM from GSM would brick a phone (maybe some command when it starts up looks for the wrong antenna bricks it ?), also the fact that we are using an un-offical method to unlock phones, it might have something to do with it...

I'm not an expert on this by any means, and can not answer every question. I want to get to the bottom of this, is it possable, if so, how ?

Yea, FM is ok, but, I am a big sports fan, my local radio station plays all the games over FM but, will not stream them over the web, never mind dead spots.

People have said, the hardware is not there, that is incorrect according to HTC. People have said, it was in the startup commands or PRL (why someone said that I have not idea), incorrect according to HTC. People have said that HTC disabled it, HTC said it was incorrect (disabled by the actual carriers not by HTC).

Hey, don't know it all but, I am trying to put a effort in to find out what the deal is here, a lot more than people telling us that it will not work, or the hardware is not there, or just give it up.

If there is NOTHING productive to say about this subject besides somethign negitive, please don't say anything...

LOL bored... your avatar reminds me of you and dave sparring over the radio.

FWIW, when it comes to cracking phones and ROMS, I've learned to never say never. Theres been so much done to the WM phones, android and iphone that was said never could be done and it has.

I give dave a B+ for persistance.

A GSM ROM won't brick a CDMA phone or the other way around. It will keep the phone from starting up and it won't pass the boot screen, but it doesn't brick the phone. Since that's the case, I'd say that it's at least close enough. I'd also guess that it's the driver for the phone chip that causes the phone from booting up. Flash the correct ROM and all is fine.

Re: Touch Pro 2 FM Radio Questions/Answers

Final questions...my ticket is closed, this is a repostfro the other thread but, this clears up any questions about hardware and the story here....

Facts that I have found out...

I opened a ticket with HTC and have been hitting them up with questions about this subject (CDMA Verizon Touch Pro 2 FM radio)

1. The CDMA Phone is the same exact phone as the GSM version accept for the cellular antenna.

Quote from HTC "The hardware in your device is identical to that of the GSM sister with the difference of the Cellular antenna. "

People even questioned it, so I asked again "As I previously mentioned, the hardware in your device is identical to that of the GSM sister with the difference of the Cellular antenna." (this was directly asking if there was any hardware difference that would cause the FM radio not to work or be degraded in performance)

2. The FM radio was disabled because CDMA carriers wanted it DISABLED, not because of a hardware related problem.

Quote from HTC "This feature was disabled on the device at the request of the carrier."

3. The FM tuner on CDMA versions are NOT disabled in a PRL or bootup command, they are disabled via Windows Mobile (not clear on at what point)

Quote from HTC "This is a modification to the Windows Mobile software. " and "The FM Radio is locked out of the Windows Mobile software on your device. "

4. HTC locked out the FM tuner on CDMA models, false (very interesting).

Quote from HTC "Verizon made the modification of removing the FM radio to Windows Mobile."

5. Do they know how to do it ? Yep...but, will they tell us...Nope...

Quote from HTC "Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how to enable the FM radio as it requires modifying the device outside of the normal function and specification set by the carrier."

Wish someone would come up and take a 2nd look into this who knows the ins and outs of WM...

Whatever. Brick or no brick, it sure seems like if the hardware is identical, as stated, that a ROM of either flavor would work to the point of at least getting through boot up. I mean if the only difference is the antenna then it should boot up with either ROM and then possibly not make calls due to the antenna. It not being able to take a GSM ROM tells me there is something hardware related that is in the way.

1. I didn't re-bring up the subject, someone over at XDA started it up again, I just joined in.

2. I saw some stuff in the past, sure, but, there was a lot of question about it, so I checked it out again.

I spent time looking into it, 10 e-mails back and forth with HTC and I have some moron saying I have nothing productive and being called a moron..

Dude....do you really need to be insulting when I am just giving the info that I found out ????

Really...some people...

If true, I would think someone in here could have made this work by now. With all the cooks making ROMs this should have been ano brainer.

Not false. OEM ROMs are made by HTC to the specifications of the carrier. Notice that upgrade ROMs come from HTC. They are the ones that have the resources and personnel to make OEM ROMs. Not like AT$T or Verizon have techs on staff writing software for every phone they market. They leave that to the manufacturers and only bother with coming up with a list of requirements. It stands to reason that anything Sprint asked to have taken out, HTC were the ones to implement it.

We get leaked ROMs from somewhere, why not this info? If there was a way to do it someone that know, perhaps from HTC themselves, would have leaked it by now.

One would think... Maybe not, everything is not clear as day, maybe people where looking in the wrong place, just because your doing something does not mean you didn't miss something.

Most of those leaked roms, AS I UNDERSTAND are not from HTC, they are from Microsoft. Some stuff gets leaked but, with some companies, it's only what they want leaked. VZW/Sprint didn't want it enabled, why would someone leak it ?

Maybe it will, maybe it won't maybe everyone will have a Windows Phone 7 phone before it even works but, it would be nice if it could.

I just wanted to help if I could, EVERYTHING I quoted is from a reply from HTC, NOTHING changed.

Re: Touch Pro 2 FM Radio Questions/Answers

Good god! The TP1 FM radio thread was a couple hundred pages long, and now we are doing it again.

Just because somebody somewhere talked to someone somewhere it does not mean that's the answer.

Hell, might as well call Sprint/Verizion/whoever tech support level 1 and ask them the exact date Android 3.0 is going to be released.

Just because you talked to someone, and that they answered, doesn't mean they have a clue about any of it.
