Re: OMJ's HTC EVO 2.1 Custom ROM *beta*
I notice that most of the applications that the rom comes with are not showing up for me and I am not sure why. This has happened with other roms as well.
I always wipe several time before and after I flash a new rom. Is the fact that I wipe after flashing the rom the reason why I am not seeing the applications? I am assuming me this shouldn't cause the problem. Any thoughts? |

OMJ includes his "custom" apps in /data/app which is cleared out by your post-flash wipes if you are doing a factory reset/wipe. Apps in /system/app are protected which is why you dont have a completely blank slate. I see NO reason for post flash wipe as standard practice. AT MOST you could wipe just cache and dalvik. SOMEtimes a custom kernel needs that to get up and running...sometimes. Just wiping cache and dalvik will not wipe /data/app. |

You said OMJ includes his custom apps in /data/app, is placing the apps in there the only way to get this done? Or is it just a chef's preference? Reason I am asking is to see (since I am not a chef) if a chef could build the rom in a way that would avoid losing the apps if a person resets/wipes. |

Still wondering why you are wiping post flash? I've never done it (with one exception for the kernel reason I mentioned) The app location is chef's preference, I've seen it OMJ's way and with everything in /system/app. Apps being in /data/app make them easier to remove...as you've discovered If you mount system as writable adb remount you could move everything over to /system/app and feel confident to wipe your brains out. |

So what all is in data/app that I am missing out on? I also wiped post flash due to my TP2 habits... Haven't flashed 3.1 yet so I guess I'll find out soon enough either way...

ROM Mgr Flash worked. After I did the nand Restore I just ran ROM Mgr and flashed thru that. It worked like a charm... hopefully the phone runs good tomorrow and the thing doesn't crap out on me.. I'm currently charging it so I haven't really taken it for a test drive..

I do post flash wiping because of a habit from windows flashing. Even after flashing a new rom, it is possible that some junk from the previous rom still lurking around so it was suggested to wipe after the flash as well. I have been doing it ever since. I moved over to android (as you can tell, still a noob) and I continue the same practice. If it's not necessary, I can save myself a step. |
