Re: OMJ's HTC EVO 2.2 Custom ROM v2.1 | FroYo 3.26.651.6 | *Updated 8/3/10*
deodexed vs odexed. I believe I remember some1 posting earlier on this thread that deodexed ROMs have a slower startup time? Or something about being slower than a odexed ROM?
I'm gearing up to start running themes but I wouldn't want to slow by Evo"Nator" down... Any recommendations would be great.. Last edited by richarc93; 08-05-2010 at 09:56 PM. |

On netarchy's thread @ xda thread (good place to search) I've seen people report pre4, pre6 and some pre7. Looks like it depends on the rom. Search this thread and see what people say here. How many times do you reboot? And what's a few seconds among friends? Last edited by Vegasden; 08-05-2010 at 10:04 PM. Reason: Just so I could see my name in the thread again :) |

The ROM is just as quick. I've read that the deodexing (?) process can make the ROM less stable than odexed ROMs but I've flashed every one of OMJ's deodexed ROMs (shocking, I know) and have never had an issue. To run the ROM-NEVER Though to live on the bleeding edge means sometimes ya gotta start over

You have a very good point about a few seconds.. So, in your opinion/experience you prefer the deodexed ROMs?? Sorry about the noob questions, it's just that I am more into Fast, Faster, FASTEST.. ohh and battery saving (gotta save a tree or sumtin..)... deodexed just seems to be fancy icing which might eat up a lot of battery?? Is that the case? Thanks.. |

Themes by themselves do not effect battery life. They are mainly just images. SOME themes do include apps due to the modder making changes to their corresponding icons (ie. taskbar notifications) By and large they are apps that are included in the ROM anyway like SMS or voicemail-apps which MAY technically be able to effect battery life but we have control over their settings. So if you theme and think your battery is effected go in and make sure none of your settings (ie sync times) have been altered. |

This will cause battery reading to be messed up for a few days till the phone "relearns" the battery's capabilities. Again-just repeating a netarchy post. He describes a battery calibration technique that I can confirm worked for me on my TP. Drain your battery all the way down to NOTHING. Pull it. Place it back, if the phone boots then drain it some more to you get nothing. Then recharge it with the phone off to full. Maybe it was placebo, maybe not but I think this worked for me like I said on my WinMo TP. There is definitely debate on whether this works or not. I'm just throwing it out there. I'd recommend trying this overnight as the charge time back to full can be lengthy. |
