Re: [ROM] midNIGHT ROM v4.2 (BYOR Edition) 3/9/2011
Difficult, indeed - Anon.
I may try flashing back to stock 2.1 / DI18 Has anyone had any experiences with dialing out - and others not being able to hear with DI18? Always toggling the speakerphone is such a hassle whenever I want to talk on my phone... What still doesn't make sense - is that it's considered a software bug. If that is the case, why are only some phones affected? I would assume its hardware, and any update would not be able to fix it?

Re: [ROM] midNIGHT ROM v4.2 (BYOR Edition) 3/9/2011
Flashing new ROMs on the Epic is not complicated. The thing is that the midMIGHT ROM has evolved over the past few months and those of us that have been here from the beginning have evolved with it. I can see how it might seem complicated for people who are new to the midNIGHT ROM series. Before you dump the handset and go back to the EVO, go check out some other ROMs. Don't get me wrong, I am a die-hard midNIGHT fan, and I want everyone to use it, but I would rather you tried out some other ROMs than give up on the Epic. Darren can probably give you some advice on which ones to use....he tries to keep up with everything out there. Once you get a little experience with flashing ROMs on the Epic, come back here and I think you will really appreciate what Rob has put together here. I don't think you can really see the difference without some perspective.

I don't think its that the actual process is hard. It is easy once you get it. I never did anything more than download an app before I moved to midNIGHT ROM 3.2. That was easy enough, so I flashed 3.3 when it became available. What I find difficult is the terms (What is Odin?) and tracking the location of files (Where do I find the stock EB13 after I install the new version of CW?). The video that Rob did on the bottom of his Android Development page really helped me a lot. So as an idiot when come to this stuff, it is doable and the results are worth it when Samsung, Sprint, and Google release half baked products. The help you get from the folks on this forum is awesome.

The thing is the extra steps are added for the EXT4...you can use a none EXT4 rom if you wish and its a bit more straight forward...all you gotta do is one click and flash rom and/or kernel...the EXT4 though makes your device smoother.. If you feel things are too complicated..just start simple..1 thing at a time..then when you feel comfortable attempt the EXT4 stuff..

I'm effectively trying to get him to flash something he is familiar with so that he feels comfortable flashing..simple as that. |

I personally don't have a lot of experience with the evo besides rooting my brothers, but the htc vision is the biggest pain in the ass to perm root. Then if you need to go back to stock, geez. Thank gawd it's my girlfriends phone and not mine. Sent from my Epic 4G running the midNIGHT rom via Tapatalk |
