Makkonen, what rom are you using? If you think it's worth the trouble, I might flash the same one to eliminate some variables in testing.
I don't think it's worth the trouble. I haven't really heard of any problems stemming from ROM differences. The things that cause an effect when android boots are pretty low level initialization stuff, and little more. (I did have trouble with someone trying to get USB connecting, but they couldn't because their ROM didn't have an option for 'Enable Advanced Network Functionality' that they could turn off -- but that's an edge case, and not a big deal).

Make sure you've got the latest Eclair build from babijoee. The first few times it boots, it can have trouble like this; if it continues, I'm not sure. (I had the same problem on an older Eclair build -- it turned out it was polling the modem and timing out, so it would lock up for about 20 of every 25 seconds while waiting for a response.)

As for SD card, you should have at least 256mb free to make the data.img on your first boot. If you don't, it won't work. After it's created the data.img, you shouldn't have to worry about free space.

Done. Thanks.

Edit: Also, for those who are following this thread with a Diamond, and getting increasingly more frustrated by the progress, MrPippy has just posted a new build in his CDMA Diamond thread.

Re: Linux/Android on CDMA Touch Pro (RAPH800) - PRE-ALPHA (not yet usable)

So I've been able to run just about every app I've downloaded. Only major thing is I've noticed a stability issue when downloading an app. 60% +/- the time it causes android to crash and the phone restarts. Is there anything you could advise to increase the stability when downloading apps?

Re: Linux/Android on CDMA Touch Pro (RAPH800) - PRE-ALPHA (not yet usable)

I have kind of a newbie question, I started and ran the 1-8 build just fine. I am on Cellular South network and could not get data to work. wifi works fine, phone works fine if i start a call before booting with Haret.
My question is can I just replace the modules and zimage files on my card to update to 1-10 or do I need to wipe my card and start fresh?
Thanks,
Jack

No need to kill everything. Just delete data.imgl the zImage, and modules and replace the zImage and modules with the new ones. The system'll write another data.img for you.

Re: Linux/Android on CDMA Touch Pro (RAPH800) - PRE-ALPHA (not yet usable)

You shouldn't even need to kill data.img if you're just changing the zImage/modules. If you want to be extra safe, you can. (And if you're upgrading to a new system.sqsh, you probably should.)

And sometimes the data.img does get corrupted somehow (don't know why), and needs to be rebuilt... but you lose all your Android settings when you do that, so no sense in bothering unless you're having problems.

Re: Linux/Android on CDMA Touch Pro (RAPH800) - PRE-ALPHA (not yet usable)

Mic worked on mine by running haret while in a call (voicemail). Tested calls incoming/outgoing and both worked. Tested SMS ingoing/outgoing both with success. u key does not work but you can always use the onscreen keyboard.
Got wifi working good on this. Initially cdma data worked but after i connected then disconnected from my wifi home network it never reconnected to the sprint cdma data network. Before it had said 3g at the top right but not after I connected to wifi. Any fixes anyone knows of? Maybe I just will have to reboot everytime after wifi.
Overall awesome compared to other builds.
Thanks to everyone working on this.

What's the progress with the camera? I've looked around on the GSM thread and nobody seems to be mentioning it. Makkonen, could you give me a little info on what's actually wrong with cam/video?

Thanks, I cleared more space off my card and reinstalled everything and it appears to be working fine now. Well, as fine as it can work. I would love it if the camera was working properly. One of the things I want to play with more than anything in Android is Google Goggles. It's also very unstable, but I guess that's to be expected. I've tried installing Last.fm a handful of times and it's rebooted my phone every single time.

This is exciting stuff though. Is there any chance that we'll ever see an actual native rom for non-android devices though? This solution doesn't seem practical if we can't boot with more than 40 megabytes of free ram.

Oh, and two more newbie questions:

Firstly, is there a way to better control the backlight on the phone within android? I hate that the power button can't turn the screen off/on without rebooting the unit (apparently). And secondly.. aw I forget what secondly was. Guess that's all for now!

The end key sends the phone to sleep, which is what power did in winmo. The power key sends you back home and opens the task switcher when you hold it (yes, it's backwards, but hey...).

And there was actually a guy who tried to make a bootable rom out of this last week but ran into some problems. Why he'd do that at this stage with all these bugs is beyond me.
