Again, the PPC-6700 did not have pic mail. The community used a hack (porting over Arcsoft from the Verizon version) but that was not available for a while after its release. And Sprint ended up killing that anyway. So if Sprint forced you to pay for it (which they did) then you were paying more, and not even getting what they were charging you for.

correct the 6700 didn't have pic mail built in but with the $5 you were given a pic mail account where people who sent you pics were stored there as well as you being able to send pics from that site also. Also if you had the 6700 it still sent you a text with a direct link to the picmail. Sprint may have messed up for forcing that plan on that phone but that was not the only evdo phone out while it was the only evdo phone not capable of pic mail.

actually picmail wasn't built in but the smms app thats been around for years did work on the 6700 which gave you direct access to picmail and would let you send and receive pics on your actual device.

I wasn't able to get picmail on my Treo 700wx. I got the link, which I could view, via the web. But that has nothing to do with whether the plans will change for the Evo 4G (which they won't).

The bottom line is, when I had a PPC 6600 (which had pic mail, by the way) I was paying less than the plan I was forced to upgrade to when I bought the 6700. And I was not the only one- the forums were flooded with irate customers back when this happened.

We were forced onto more expensive plans. Therefore, it is not correct to say the price was the same.

Not true. When the PPC 6700 first launched, there was no pic mail app, and no work around. Pic mail just flat out wouldn't work on it (the Sprint version, the Verizon version had it).

Someone came up with a solution after a while, but Sprint eventually blocked it. Someone then came up with a different pic mail app after a while, but the PPC 6700 was pretty much dead at that point anyway.

Yes and he also said "Sprint will keep this network "open", meaning any device will be able to access the network."..and it somehow is feeling rather closed ATM..but maybe thats just me.

Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???

i'll throw this in:
that picture states "requires a compatible plan bundle" that's the same language they've used with the webos and android devices, so it's probably going to use the same everything plan that all the new smartphones require

talking to my sprint rep last week he said they will not be charging more for 4G on the device, further evidence that the current everything plans will support the evo

and yes they have the hotspot feature but they are planning on charging for it however theres no reason they couldn't run a promo and offer free hotspot service just like what verizon has done with the pre plus

true but its the samething with sep plans, some phones require sep plans which are always more expensive, sometimes its the same, and sometimes its cheaper, not EVERY customer was same. The only irrate customers were customers who didn't have pic mail, sprint made the decision to screw them. those that already had picmail were not affected, which goes back to my point that the average customer will not be affected by a price plan to wimax. And the $5 increase wasn't for vision, it was for forced picmail, vision price stayed the same.

correct, 6700 never got official picmail app from sprint, but they still had access to their picmail account which gave them added benefits, including receiving a direct text when a pic mail was received.
