Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
I was out for the weekend, but TechNewbie is right, the connection is always open, so it is only a few seconds for a lock.

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
TechNewbie....I'm sorry, I didn't read you rpost too well last night (long hard weekend)...what ROM are you trying to flash to?
Go to your Settings > About screen, and it should have the ROM your on listed there. As for the GPS, did you enable location in the settings? That is an easily missed step!! |

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
I am attaching screenshots of what i have. Still no GPS and I wonder if it has something to do with the error I got when I flashed the ROM: "Device Does Not Support DPRAM Download"; phone works, GPS does not and some applications do not run when pressing the touchscreen i did not have this issue before firmware update).
I think I flashed the ROM as shown on the screens. I guess I could try to run the UMDL again from a different laptop. thanks. |

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
OK....kinda my bad, I should have asked you this: Did you flash to the 'leaked' beta ROM first? You need to do that before flashing to any of the cooked ones.

the leaked Beta Rom is what I installed to unlock GPS . no other Rom firmware installed. Got leaked Beta from iDoctor

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
I am sure you thought of this already, but I would do a hard reset, and start again from scratch. If you keep getting the error, maybe you have a faulty download. I would think you would have more than just the GPS not working though.
One other thing I can think of though....did you try GoogleMaps before you ran the restore? I know it should still work, but it is worth checking to see if maybe some file that came with the backup is messing with the GPS. |

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
For Google allow Windows to manage GPS. Do not use the manual setting.
Go outside for the first lock. Set the phone down with a clear view of the sky. The first lock can take a while. Up to 10 minutes sometimes. Edit: Also get BAFGPSToggle.cab. I'll see if I can locate it. You use it to keep a lock on the sats so that you don't have to wait once you launch GMaps or whatever. Display it in your Today Screen. Here ya go: Edit: Link changed per Baffles. Find it at http://www.baf.cc/gpstoggle Ted

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
i did not get chance to re-try last night. hard re-set and re-install. I had also tried AmazeGPS applicaiton but it too did not work. thanks for the advice. will let you know how it turns out.
Edit: When I run the UMDL, at the very top it asks to select either i910-Omnia or i910 Omnia [DPRAM]. the defualt is 'DPRAM'. Do I keep this default? Last edited by TechNewbie; 05-19-2009 at 12:40 PM. |
