I am sure you thought of this already, but I would do a hard reset, and start again from scratch. If you keep getting the error, maybe you have a faulty download. I would think you would have more than just the GPS not working though.

One other thing I can think of though....did you try GoogleMaps before you ran the restore? I know it should still work, but it is worth checking to see if maybe some file that came with the backup is messing with the GPS.
