Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
New to this site, but found it and have read this entire thread trying to determine how to enable my Omnia's GPS. I was unaware it was disabled until I tried to use a golf GPS program this afternoon and got no GPS updates. I have switched the GPS setting to location on (instead of 911 only) and downloaded google maps to help test. Google maps gave the "no GPS detected" report with auto config set, but wtih manual config to comm8 and 57600 baud it searches for satellites for about 5 mins then says "weak signal." I do have very weak signal strength in and around my house, so i will try again elsewhere, but could this mean the gps has been enabled somehow? I have not done anything to change the ROM from the factory version, just found it curious that with manual settings it "appears" to be enabled. Thoughts?

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
It wouldn't be looking for satellites if it didn't have a GPS receiver. You need to go outside, at least the first time.

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
Guess I'll download the ROM and follow the instructions. Was just hoping that when it started seeking satellites there was some fluke that it was somehow now unlocked for 3rd party programs. Oh well. Thanks all for the help and feedback. This site is extremely valuable.

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
newbie with problem/question.
I downloaded and opened UMDL_OMNIA_v2.3 (I see the page where you select a platform, pda, phone, Unified image file, ect.) I ONLY hit the unified image file (*img) button, which went directly to my downloaded i910WM6.1.REV10.cc20.VZW.img file. Hit the i910WM6.1.REV10.cc20.VZW.img file and the file uploads into the PDA-EBOOT space next to the button, PDA-PDA space next to that button, PDA-CSC space next to that button, and the PHONE-PHONE space next to that button in the Unified Image File (*.img) box, the file is there also and there is a blue strip that light up. So far I think everything is going ok. I press DETECT button, connect my phone (which was turned off) to USB port, and then turn on my phone. Now comes my problem. In the Downloading Log, I get this response: usbDev open faile usbDev open faile usbDev open faile usbDev open faile PDA Device not found. Please, someone tell me what am I doing wrong. Prior to all this, the phone was hard reset, USB drivers downloaded, host computer restarted, Active sync set to NO USB CONNECTIONS, and Phone connections to MASS STORAGE. I have tried this on both of my VISTA and XP computers with the same results (both utilizing 2.0 usb ports). I have also tried this with the phone programmed and not programmed (*22. So, why isn't this taking. |

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?
TTM, i had the same error message as well. I finally got it to work after doing a few things. don't which if any fixed the problem but give it a try.
1. i installed USB drivers from the VZ red CD which came with the phone. 2. after 1 above, i sync'd the phone (powered on)with activesync. 3. with phone still connected, i changed Activesync settings per the instructions 4.with phone still on, i changed phone settings re Media per the instructions. 5. with phone still connected, I then powered it off. 6. ran UMDL, selected file, hit 'detect' and off it went. above was only thing i could think of to try to get the phone drivers loaded into computer RAM before running the UMDL. worked for me after several failed attempts. |
