Re: what will i miss on iPhone
Does the iphone allow editing of excel docs yet? I know it didn't at one point although I'm guessing if that hasn't been rectified I'm sure it probably will be.
Yes $600... the base phone plan on sprint is $30, unlimited data is $15, my bill is $45/mo (plus I also get a 16% discount thru work that takes care of taxes an fees... so my bill really is $45/mo). The cheapest plan I could get with the iphone was $70. Difference is $25/mo times 24 months is $600. It amazes me that people only look at the monthly cost of these plans. The devices are dirt cheap compared to what you pay in monthly costs. Garmin XT is turn-by-turn navigation (like igo, tomtom, etc.). I hear tom-tom is going to be coming to the iphone. While I'm running Garmin I can swap over to the music player, switch songs and go back to the garmin app and it will have retains my route... the iphone supports this or does it close the active app if I want to switch music? I've played with a buddies ipod touch but haven't used an iphone extensively. I take it the tethering is thru hacks? Does it allow you to share the cellular data connection over wifi the way WMWifiRouter does? |

Re: what will i miss on iPhone
The iphone is NOT for everyone but that being said, I actually admire the handset. Apple did a very good job with it and integrating itunes and the App store. They literally leap-frogged Microsoft who had a 7 year head start with Windows CE/PPC/Winmo in their first try.
But to me the biggest downside to the iphone is the COST. The prices that ATT charges (and indirectly Apple) is exhorbent. It's crazy how much you end up spending on an iphone plan over 2 years. |

Re: what will i miss on iPhone
I left Sprint and moved to AT&T just a week ago and bought an Iphone. I didn't do it to move to the Iphone, I did it because the Sprint service in our area has degraded so badly that it became literally unusable. This despite the Sprint coverage map showing us as having "excellent" coverage. Sprint engineering informed me that they know they had a problem tower (the one that served us) but they were not going to fix it because they didn't have that many users here. There were other issues also. Because of the coverage problem they let us go with no ETF.
I went to AT&T but was concerned about coverage because we are not in their service area. I won't go into how we were able to open an account but we did. I ported over to give it a try before porting my wife's phone and the service was fine everywhere we went. I ported my wife's phone last Saturday. We both got Iphones. There are things I miss in the Iphone but it has turned out to be a good phone for us. The dealbreakers that I had to have are there. Its true that it is not as configurable at WM but it also has some nice features. I could definitely see myself moving back to a WM device on AT&T when the newer WM phones start coming out but I don't think I would consider than until WM7 and then I'll take a look at it. I don't get involved in WM vs. Iphone because its not productive for me. I buy and use what works for me. I could love WM from now till hell freezes over but with no working Sprint signal here where we use our phones its a moot point. We'll see if I stay with the Iphone once WM7 phones start showing up on a cell network that is usable in my area. That's the big question and I don't know the answer to it myself at this point. R |

Re: what will i miss on iPhone
That's because Apple has a great Marketing Machine behind the iPhone
called Steve Jobs but with the CEO having grave health issues, that may create issues for Apple. Steve Jobs is a Genius The iPhone does have a great design aesthetically and it does appeal to the masses. I would say that WM devices appeal to a small niche of the general public. I have never owned an iPhone but after owning a Diamond, I doubt I ever will Last edited by Biker1; 07-14-2009 at 12:05 AM. |

Re: what will i miss on iPhone
I would miss being able to have several apps running at one time, the ability to play pretty much any video format without having to convert to mpeg4, flash, tethering, replaceable battery, and the fact that I would have to have itunes on my laptop and use it to put anything on my phone, and the ability to totally change and customize my phone to my liking.
Those are just the things I would lose switching to an iphone from my antiquated HTC Vogue! The list of things I would miss will be even longer after I renew in sept. Things like a larger HD WVGA screen, better camera, and physical keyboard, to name a few. Plus I'd miss NOT being an apple/at&t customer/prisoner/homo
