Re: :::Best Buy::: Checking Phone's build date before buying/swapping?

Is there any other way to check the build date than dialing ##778# or whatever the number was? I have the Sprint TP ported onto VZW and dialing the number doesn't work.

I exchanged my phone at BB because of EXTREME battery overheating and freezing. I don't remember the build date on it. The build date on the one I have now says 11/29/2008 (unless I'm looking at the wrong information) but I'm assuming they were probably the exact same since I did the exchange within a week and the Pro isn't as popular in the area I did the exchange. I haven't noticed the overheating issue as quickly as I did on the previous. Can't say anything about the RAM though.

They'll probably argue that you are outside of your exchange date, unless you have some type of warranty with BB. They will probably point you to the Sprint Store. Best bet would be to argue your case with the Sprint Store reps.

Ok, so I have my phone. I have had it since November or October, when they were first released (October 19th or 25th, I can't remember).

I bought it from Best Buy...

I have noticed a couple of things... but I just never returned the phone....

A) There is a weird, square rainbow discoloration on the screen, that is visible, at an angle, when you turn the phone off. It is about an inch in diameter and shaped like a square. It will not come off, no matter how much I wipe the screen with a micro-fibre cloth.

B) The home button has a slight crack between it and the bottom of the display, and thus the corner comes up higher on the edge.

I have spoken to 3 different reps with Sprint, and they have said that all I have to do, is to walk into my nearest sprint store and get the phone replaced through manufacturer warranty. But that is not the case, when I walked into the Sprint store, down the street from my office. Now, to be fair, when I showed them the phone, the Store Rep was like "well, they are not going to replace it because of a cosmetic issue", and that was in regards to the raised Home button issue. I had forgotten to show her the discoloration on the Display...

Some more facts...

MEID (Hex) is A10000078020DF
Build Date is October 13th
Original Activiation is October 25th

BB will send it out for repair. You will then have to wait for it and get a loaner phone until you get a new one.

If your phone works, I would keep it, if you really don't want it, and you have insurance, you can figure the rest of this sentence out I am sure.

I couldn't agree with you more, I challenge anyone to find something on that wasnt either pulled from here, XDA, or another forum. I have not found anything usefull at SU, at least for PPC's that is.

I would send an email off to ecare, It seems that your HEX# falls within the specified range of the known defect. I have learned in my years with Sprint to always go through Ecare or retentions to get anything done. If ecare responds that this does fall in the range print the email and take it in to the shop when you go in. I ended up having to do this because the lady in the shop stated that they would not replace my TP with chipped chrome because it is physical damage. Even her manager did not know about the recall until I put the email in his face.

Perhaps I was wrong in coming to this conclusion?
I got a new pro yesterday and when I tried to restore with SPB Backup it gave me the message that the ROM version was different as well. My build date is 12/17/08 on the new Pro. My original pro was from the first batch from best buy on 10/26 the day they were released for sale. I didnt mind to check my ROM version on the original but SPB did say my ROM version is different now. Also I think the build quality is a little bit better as well. My ROM version is 1.03.651.3 so lets post a few and compare.
