Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

Is there some kind of reg edit to power the phone directly without charging battery - treat the phone as if there was no battery? That way heat wouldn't be so much of an issue?

I know this doesn't help to solve your problem , but I hope it shows that it isn't an isolated event.

I had the same issues with my Mogul too, yet to an extemely lesser extent. The only way I could overheat the Mogul enough to stop charging was with wifi on streaming data to my pc with wmwifirouter. Occasionally when the Mogul got too hot the BT light would come on with an almost intense white glow... TP seems to die on the charger with just the cell radio going, which is awful on a long call.

Hmmm... maybe if I modify a Core2Duo CPU heatsink I could...

A regedit to do that? That's all handled by internal circuitry. It's nothing the OS has control over.

That's what I thought, but I remebbered that there's an option to do that with USB where you can have it so it doesn't charge the phone via usb. I don't know if it would still power it though.

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

I think the real issue is the battery doesn't have enough juice. 1350mAh... c'mon!

Besides that, yes. My titan also overheated all the time. Maybe I just use my phone too much?

I just got off a (nearly) 2-hour conference call, with the speakerphone enabled, at the LOWEST possible volume, plugged into the stock 1000ma charger.

I started the call at 100% battery, and the call ended at 30% battery.

How is that even possible? I wish I was running a power utility, because that is insane. I was not running any programs in the background, other than my work's exchange connection--which doesn't work during a phone call anyways... I received 4 text messages, and replied to 3.

If I didn't have it plugged in at all, would it be completely dead? after 1 hour and 45 minutes of speakerphone use, would a normal TP be completely drained?

Also, my phone was VERY hot.

I can't wait for my replacement
I have the same problem when listening to internet radio even when the phone is plugged in. It will last about 2 hours and die. It also gets extremely hot. I plan on taking my pro back this weekend and exchanging it.

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

Wow, so I'm not the only one...

I used my Touch on a near daily-basis with the speakerphone, while charging, and not once did I notice it DRAINING.

So am just making a regular phone call, with no wifi enabled, no data connection, and bluetooth is not connected either (but is "on") -- wow, I really hope I get a new one without these issues (and with a heat-plate)

AFAIK, none of the Sprint TPs have the heat plate.

Yeah, I am not sure what sort of solution exists for this specific issue.

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

Ok. I just got off the phone with HTC technical support and they told me this is a safety feature. Upon closer inspection of the manual I found the csr was right. On p.32 of the HTC Touch Pro manual it states, "as a safety precaution, the battery stops charging when it overheats." The caveat is you can't take out the battery and charge directly as this could damage your device. So, when it comes down to it, these devices aren't really capable of making prolonged voice calling without having to end it and change battery. Are all smartphones like this?
