Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

I hate to say it but this phone has the *WORST* battery life of any phone I've EVER used.

I pulled it off the charger at noon. Its 6:33PM and its about 20%, maybe a bit less. That's with bluetooth and wifi off, beams off, two phone calls about 30 minutes each, and some browsing on Opera.

That's appalling. I'm honestly mulling over sending it back but I'm going to keep it for at least another week to give it a chance. The heat issue is obnoxious (not to mention concerning) and the battery is even worse...

Well. It seems like the battery meter is fubar. It sat at that 20% until 9:30 or so before dropping to 10% and hit 5% and just about died when I got home at 10:45.

My battery life seemed horrible for the first 2 weeks or so, then got a bit better. I decided to hard reset to stock config, a couple days later the battery life doubled. I think part of it is a combination of use, and part of it is allowing the battery meter to calibrate (supposedly the battery doesn't have memory, so that doesn't need to be broken in, so only thing I can think of to explain it is a better calibrated meter, even though previously I'd only get ~12 hours before it died, and now under similar "light" usage I can get 48-72 hours before it dies).

Your two 30 min phone calls (1 hr total) would use up probably 25-35% of your battery, at least based on how much power I've seen the phone radio to draw, and it depends on how long you previously were using Opera, and how long it was "active" data connection, but for example if the phone was actively downloading for 30 minutes, then that would drain another 15-20% of battery, and then every hour the screen is on will use another 5% or so. Plus, just being in standby (screen off, but phone on, nothing active) is going to use ~1-2% each hour.

The battery life isn't great, but it isn't as bad as I first thought it was. I've said before, but I'm REALLY hoping that a radio software update can fix the power drainage from using the phone/data, because that is a HUGE killer in performance (and for some reason is significantly more than other phones)

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

it does take the meter a few charge/discharge cycles to become more accurate. however, i noticed that it never gets as accurate as my mogul seemed to be. idk...

Folks... 3.5 hours of talk time on a charge. "Some browsing in Opera" - was that about 30 or so minutes? If so you've burned nearly 40% of your battery total. Just on standby going 20+ hours is a major triumph for this battery.

Maybe folks aren't used to PDA phones where data use is roughly the same as talk time battery-wise? Anywhoo, you get just about 3.5 hours of USE out of the battery in a day, where USE pretty much means you're using it, for anything. It might possibly be able to sit there and do nothing for 24 hours off charger, unless it is silently using its battery to find a signal.

Compared to the mogul, it might be a bit worse at not using power when sitting there, and it is way more thirsty when in use.

But it looks marvelous doing it.

True, and for me, my phones are using data all the time, even when not in my hand.

I wish some phone OS would come through and revolutionize the way data was pulled, so you could be in contact with all your important data, and not have to leave your phone on the charger all day...

I find that 3.5 hrs talk time on a charge is impossible for me. If I start at 100% battery I could maybe make it to 3 hours before it dies.

As for standby, without it doing anything I can routinely get 48 hours, and have hit 72 hours a few times. This is, of course, not using the phone or data AT ALL. If I use either of those functions, then battery life spirals downwards (lose about 24+ hours of standby time for every hour on the phone/data)

And yes, it looks absolutely marvelous while it is sitting there not doing anything
