Re: G-Mail Exchange Service Reliability?
I am going to have to take back my statement. up until i posted it had been working fine, but this morning my gmail has been acting funny. im not getting my notification right away and it won't sync every message in my inbox, even though i have selected download all. gmail will probably get it fixed soon, it is only in beta. I think they underestimated how many people would jumped on this train.

Re: G-Mail Exchange Service Reliability?
is gmail now pushing contacts and calendar? I thought that it was only mail and possibly calendar. can someone confirm please.
FYI: I had spent tons of time to figure out how to have push email and eventually went with a hosted exchange service. Its $9/mo. however the piece of mind that all is on the ser ver feels good and all the time I have saved trying other methods that didn't quite do this. The service has also been VERY reliable. I have a link in my sig if you want to try it out. I still am curious as to how gmail exchange works. Can you also buse Outlook to connect to gmail exchange server?

Re: G-Mail Exchange Service Reliability?
I tried it for a about two hours last week, it was horrible and went back to my $6.99 a month 1and1 exchange which is accurate 99% of the time and push also my sent mail (which gmail did not). I have placed it on my other line to see if it get better (so far the same thing). I have a gmail address but will wait til or if ever they actual get their act to together on this service.

http://www.sherweb.com is a direct link... then click on "hosted exchange." Sherweb's exchange account also comes with 100 mb of SharePoint space... I've found sharepoint to be nice but not so useful for only one person (too many other ways to store and retrieve files/folders, etc). Sharepoint would be nice for a group though... If it ever becomes stable, I may switch over to google's offering sometime. Email is important to me... google is not "there" yet... IMO My guess is they will build their own "exchange email" service in the future and stop using Microsoft's solution. That only makes sense... maybe not the near future... Re: G-Mail Exchange Service Reliability?
It's nice to hear some feedback on the gmail. Plenty of people have these smartphones who have to plug in to sync, or have to setup a POP account everytime they hard reset. Its just a pain + chasing items between the computer and PPC.
If the Gmail deal pans out and also work in Outlook(Exchange) it will be really nice for the mainstream to have similar features to business users on Exchange. I can say that I have used 1and1 for exchange, but switched due to the limited 1GB storage space, they weren't upgrading to Exchange 2007 at the time, and annoyances with their service and company. I have been using Sherweb now for at least 2yrs, with 3GB storage, etc. and have been very pleased. |

Re: G-Mail Exchange Service Reliability?
I've had no problems at all..
Only with calendar, appointments will create duplicates sometimes. Email arrive on time.. maybe 30-1 minute late. |

Re: G-Mail Exchange Service Reliability?
Google does have an add-in for Outlook to sync to its server. I don't know if this will work similar to Exchange. I created a new profile for Outlook to test this out, however found out that Google doesn't support 64-bit XP, so that was the end of it.
Here is the link if anyone is interested in testing it out. I reccomend creating a new Outlook profile w/out an e-mail account to test. https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync Edit: This service is a paid service. So I really do not see how this can even compare to MS Exchange. The other negative aspect is all the hoops to jump through just to avoid a 100% functional MS product???
