Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

@Everyone -
Reminder, if you're getting help from someone, don't post "Thanks"
Instead, just click the button.

And thanks winmonewbie for keeping up w/ this thread and helping people out. (Yes, I hit the button )

Now regarding the issues people are having...

I've personally tested these methods in XP, Vista and Win7.
On all 3 pc's all I did was install HTC Sync and download the evo-recovery.zip file. Everything you need to make this work in contained in this thread.
In fact, I went against the popular opinion and I only used the HTC Sync file that came w/ the phone on the sdcard. I didn't use the newest version w/ the newest drivers. Everything worked as it should.
Unfortunately, w/ different setups, people have different things installed that may cause problems. But, if you remove any trace of any file that has to do w/ HTC Sync and the drivers for your phone, then start from scratch, it should work.

That being said, if you're still having trouble getting this method to work, you should try SimpleRoot. If you're on 1.47, use this version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720565

Keep in mind, SimpleRoot basically does what I described in Section 5. So, if SimpleRoot works, then the problem was user error.

So after all that work, I'm having to take it back to BB to swap out because of the screen leak issue. So now I guess I need to return the phone to stock and return it with the stock rom. Care to assist me with this as well?

Apparently it was the wrong one that I needed. I downloaded the other version from whitslacks thread and that did the trick. Thanks for the help man, so whats my next step? I see the Superuser permission icon in the apps menu, but when I click it, its blank. My current software is back to 1.47.651.1 and my 4G is working again thank god.

Sweet!
Superuser will be blank initially until you start running apps that require root permission. As you do Superuser will prompt you to Allow and then if you click on the icon you'll be looking at your Whitelist (allowed apps). I generally "set it and forget it" as all my apps need to have constant, permanent access.

As far as your next step-so if you successfully flashed whitslack then you are on a rooted version of the 1.47 Stock ROM. You can run with that.
OR you can nand back that up for safe keeping and try out some custom ROMS.

Either way run ROM Manager (either DL from the Market or it'll most likely be included with a custom ROM) and use the options I talked about last night to install your Recovery image. You will always be able to run the manual recovery I told you about last night but it's much more convenient to have it permanently installed.
Flash Clockwork Recovery and stay with that or do that THEN select Flash Alternate Recovery form the ROM Manager menu and use a version of amon RA Recovery (that's what I'd do).

The easiest method would be to go here http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
and flash
RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_rele ase_CL195459.exe

If that works, you're done. If it doesn't work, hopefully you made a nandroid backup. If you have a nandroid backup restore it.
Then try flashing the RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_rele ase_CL195459.exe

If you don't have a nandroid backup and you can flash the RUU, you may have to try flashing another shipped rom.
RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_rele ase_171253.exe
RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_rele ase_171253_signed.exe

Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

Question about NAND backup..I am fully rooted (thanks to winmonebie) 1 & 2, have done the whitslack update and flashed OMJ 1.7 ver 2..To do my NAND backup and restore should I still use ROM mngr + Clockword mod??? I ask because I remember part of the reason I was told to do the Whitslack method was to get AMON RA Recovery..In reading this tutorial I do not see anything about this so I just wanted to ask before I use the clockword mod..thanks

While ROM Manager and Clockwork have a backup feature I dont *think* its exactly the same as Nand, could be wrong.
If you havent flashed Clockwork yet then use the Quickboot app that OMJ installed on 1.7. It will automatically boot you into recovery. As long as your recovery.img was flashed correctly by whitslacks method (sometimes amon doesnt take in that process-dunno why) you will boot into amon and can do the Nand from there.

Actually, Rom Manager backs up the same things that a Nandroid backup does. The only difference is that RA Amon recovery calls it Nandroid on your sdcard and Rom Manager uses ClockworkMod recovery and calls it Backup.

As far as what is backed-up, it's pretty much the same.

Thank you for the friendly reminder. i havent really visited ppcgeeks since switching to Android in january of '09. i found out just a few days ago that they started supporting Android. I happily went back and pressed the "thank You" button on each of the posts where you and winmonewbie assisted me.

now i will let the thread get back to topic.

Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

Sorry if this has already been asked, but if I have already rooted through unrevoked3, can I still follow these steps? If not, can I reflash the stock recovery to follow this process?
