whitslacks was the xda link i posted. He mainly created it to get users the OTA safely and still maintain root but it is a full stock ROM. Check the link again, it's easy. The ROM is installed with the PC36IMG file type, name it correctly and put it onto your card. Then boot into bootloader like you just did and the file will run. You wont have Super User until you flash the zip that is also in Post #1 of that thread. THAT zip is flashed just like a typical ROM (like Fast described in Post #1 of his tutorial) but you dont have to wipe, just flash.

Ok using whitslacks xda link I get to step 14 and select recovery and hit power power button but when I do I get a pic of the phone with a red triangle with a red exclamation down the middle of the red triangle. At that point I can't get it to do anything unless I take out the battery and restart it. I followed the instructions to the T. Whats going on here?

Plug your phone in via USB. Make sure it's set to Charge only and USB debugging. Then go to the evo-recovery folder (if you didnt DL it before grab it from Post #1 here) Open that folder and double click on the recovery-windows.bat file. This will give you a temporary recovery image so you can flash the superuser file. Once you are up and running on his rom DL ROM Manager from the Market if he doesnt include it in the ROM. Once you run that you will see an option to flash Clockwork mod Recovery. That will give you a permanent recovery image. AFTER Clockwork is installed look at the bottom of the menu and you will have the option to flash an alternate Recovery, personally I would pick that one. It does a better job of wiping the device IMO. EDIT: From whitslack's Post #1 Fail-PU error It seems some EVOs just don't want to take the Amon RA recovery. If you're running into the infamous "Fail-PU" error, try deleting the recovery image from the PC36IMG.zip and flashing again. Do note, if you currently have the stock recovery loaded, doing this will mean that you will be unable to install the su-2.1-e-unsecure-signed.zip package to get root/superuser, as described above, until after you've flashed a custom recovery, which you can't do from within the system using flash_image unless you have root. The only way in that case is to use fastboot. If you're coming right from Toast's Part 2, then none of this should be a problem, since you'll already have a custom recovery, albeit an old and crusty one. You should be fine to do it the way I told you. Let me know if you have any issues. Last edited by iknowsquat; 07-17-2010 at 03:26 AM. |

Ok you lost me, I found the evo-recovery folder on post one. Do I down load it to my pc? Because my phone being in charge mode it won't let me save it to my phone.

Then set your phone up the way I said. Then go to the folder on your PC and open the folder and double click on the recovery-windows.bat file in there. It will throw the file you need to your phone. |

Ok I found the file somehow and double clicked it. It ran a brief script then closed out. I then went back to pick up at step 14 and it game the same result with the pic of the phone with the red triagle and exclamation. I know I must be making it alot harder then it really needs to be. At least I'm rooted, I was able to install the adfree program which requires a rooted EVO. I feel like I'm letting you down winmonewbie, with all the help you have been giving me tonight/morning. Thanks..!!

Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide
Alright people, it's been 3 days of searching and reading and I haven't found anyone with my issue so here goes.
I'm getting the same "Main Version is older! Update Fail!" error as this guy except mine is happening at step 1E. I have all 5 files on sdcard, checked the files sizes against the pics and youtube vid and they match to the T. Followed the few steps to get me to this point to the T and still this dumbass error. Ideas? Thanx!! |

So boot into Recovery and while you screen is "stuck", run that file. Quote:
Menu>Settings>About Phone>Software Information If your software # is 1.47xxxxxxx then you are starting in the wrong spot. You need to start with ****ROOTING AFTER OTA 1.47.651.1 (Full Root)**** Last edited by iknowsquat; 07-17-2010 at 11:24 AM. |
