Re: EVO - Root|Recovery|Nand Backup|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Videos

Hello, I did the pc36.zip part and now I'm at the part where I run the clockwork Rom manager. I rebooted, selected recovery, hit up volume and power, then I selected apply sdupdate. But it says cannot find update.zip

I definitely know how to do all the steps, but I'm still running into issues trying to use Rom Manager for loading roms.

The one process that has never failed me, is the original process that I posted. Going into Recovery mode the manual way has worked 100% of the time for me. No matter how bad everything is failing, I can always power down, reboot into bootloader, connect to the pc and run the "recovery-windows.bat" file.
I also noticed everything, at least for me, has been much more reliable if I only connect the phone when I need it to be connected and using XP instead of Windows 7 has also been easier.

Have you tried doing this by the manual method I described? The videos show all the steps.

Also, if what version of Windows are you using?

I have Vista on my PC. I tried a million times using the ROM manager and couldnt get it. I ended up having to do the manual method and it worked with no problem on the 1st time. Now Im just upset because I had a few paid apps that Im having toruble loading back on. I tried to use the Market and the apps I need are no longer showing up there, wtf?

When you install Rom Manager, if everything goes according to plan, update.zip is placed on the root of your sd card.
Someone else had similar issue. He just got the update.zip and placed it on the root of the card. I attached a copy of my update.zip to this post.

However, like AYSIANA, I had issues actually installing a rom from Rom Manager. (See her response below) She got it to work using the manual method just like I had to do.

Did it manually? Good, now you're practically a pro.
As long as you can get it done manually, you're good to go because it can only get easier.

As far as your issue w/ the apps, what rom are you using?

interesting. i was wondering if i was the only one that didn't get the Rom manager working properly. my experience was the exact same as yours. as far as your apps go, are you sure you got them from the market or did you download them from somewhere else and copy them to your SD? that happened to me. i had totally forgotten i manually downloaded swype.

I'm just using the stock .1 rom cause I don't wanna mess with the phone too much until I get a hang of dealing with Android. I just looked on my SD card and there is still no update.zip on it, so how in the hec did I manage to get through recovery & nandroid back up without it?? Im confused!

No clue, but Rom Manager has been doing some screwy things.

I'm confused, are you actually running a rooted rom?
Which stock rom are you using?
If you root the phone, but don't flash a rooted rom, you'll have issues. (Like missing apps in the store)

This guide seemed a more of all in one and better than the other sticked how-to. So I stuck this one instead.
