Re: EVO Full Root No PC or ADB|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing| for n00b's + Vi

I just got a replacement evo since i lost mine, but it did not come with a SD card, i went to bestbuy and got a 2gig card, but when I try to root after doing the volume and power combination it tell me "no image, wrong image" for each file I added to the root of the SD card. I have baseband 1.39. any ideas what I could be missing? thank you

Welcome to winmonewbie's hell from last night!

1st, I'm assuming you used a rooted version of the update, right? Like Calkulin's or something. Not just the OTA from Sprint.
So, here's what you do...

You need to redo part 2 of rooting you may have to use the pc method. Get the files onto your storage card.
Start running the commands in the ADB Shell or Android Terminal app if it lets you.
One thing, if you see a "$" you won't have access to run the commands. Type "SU" and hit enter. If it switches to "#" continue doing the steps. If it doesn't give you a "#" then I'm not sure.

Reformat your sdcard. Do not use Quick Format and make sure it's fat32. Android can't read NTFS formats.

Ugh, can't believe it was typing SU that I was forgetting to do... just happened to click on the last page and saw this post... feel like such a n00b. I had installed a rooted version of the OTA and it all went to crap from there, back to rooted with nandroid, hopefully wont have to go through this again. -- Thanks (and yes I did hit the button ~)

Re: EVO Full Root No PC or ADB|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing| for n00b's + Vi

im having a problem with this step

"2J) Open Estrongs File explorer. Long-press on the file to rename the file "PC36IMG.zip" --> "eng-PC36IMG.zip""

if I follow all of the instructions I already have a "PC36IMG.zip" file unless I was suppose to remove it at one point??? Thanks

2C) Open Estrongs File explorer. Long-press on the files to rename the file "PC36IMG.zip" --> "root-PC36IMG.zip" and then rename "eng-PC36IMG.zip" --> "PC36IMG.zip"

And in step 2J you make the eng-PC36IMG.zip file again.
So it looks like it did before you started.
You'll have the root-PC36IMG.zip and the eng-PC36IMG.zip
No PC36IMG.zip at all.

Fast X - I (partially I guess) rooted using the old method you had posted. Now I want to finish the job. Do I find and follow the old part two or can I use the PC version of part 2 that you have redone? By the way, even though I am only partially rooted, when I do that test that you have it shows the # sign.

Follow either:

Section 2 Version 1 No PC Needed or

Section 2 Version 2 Using the PC (this is basically the old Part 2)

You'll get the # sign with partial root just not the benes of full root.
