Just follow the root method above and install the following ROM. It is the rooted stock Rom.

You should probably go with a custom rom. There are a few that make it real easy to remove Sprint stuff. I personally use DC. Here is a link to his thread.

Rooting Question...

So I'm going to be picking up my Evo this weekend from BB to replace me TP2. I was going to then go to Sprint to have them transfer my phone book to the EVO from my TP2. Question is, if I plan to root the EVO should I bother? Will rooting erase all my contacts? I figured it would but just wanted to make sure. Of course I wouldn't be going to Sprint after rooting the phone. Thanks..!!

Re: Rooting Question...

The easiest thing to do is to put your contacts from your phone up to gmail. I created a secondary gmail account just for my phone contacts. Before I got my hero, I uploaded my WM contacts up to my gmail account, and haven't had to worry about transferring contacts ever since. Just sign in to the gmail account where you have your phone contacts, and you are done.

And yes, the method for rooting the evo will erase everything on your phone, so you would need to upload your contacts again. So, the easiest thing you can do is to get them up to your gmail account.

That is another way to do it, as well.

I know I was able to transfer my contacts directly to my gmail account from my WM phone. You go through the steps of creating an active sync account, and then do a sync. No outlook access necessary. There are instructions on Google's website, on how to set that up.

Agree this method is fast and easy. Once contacts are synced, maintenance is automatic.

You may or may not know this.
With an android phone, you MUST have a Gmail account.
You can't use the Marketplace w/o one. When you first turn on the phone, it will ask you for your gmail account. That's why everyone is suggesting you put your contacts on gmail.
After you root or flash custom roms, you'll lose your stuff. If you have gmail setup, you just sign back into gmail and all your contacts are back.
