Re: EVO Full Root|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Vid
Ultimately you'll have 2 different PC36IMG files.
The first one is for Rooting the phone in step 1. The second one is for Unlocking the Nand Protection and getting Full Root access. Download both and name the 1st one root-PC36IMG.zip then name the 2nd one eng-PC36IMG.zip that way you know what each one is for. When you need to go into bootloader and actually load a particular file, rename it just say PC36IMG.zip, once you're done using it, name it back to the other name. The only time you actually drop the "root-" or "eng-" is when you need to use the file in bootloader.

I know since I did it. I knew better but when I saw the zip being read I freaked. Of course I just hit No to the 'continue update' question once it got there. No harm, no foul. Ultimately you're right, best to rename it or move it into a folder to prevent heart attacks.

So once you finish the process all you do is restore it and you're back to where you left off without having to set up the ROM from fresh flash. You COULD reflash a ROM but that'd be a pita imo. Nand backup/restore is the way to go. If you are using Stock ROM, make sure you are using the rooted Stock ROM. Dont root and stay on the original ROM, very good chance of headaches. If you are on non-rooted stock, I'd flash rooted stock, set THAT up, THEN run the Nand backup. |

When you obtain root you want to run ROMs-Stock or Custom that were written to utilize root access. Everything just flows better that way. Yes if you load the rooted Stock you can still back that up and flash yer brains out trying all the different custom ROMs that are cropping up almost daily at this point. CHOICE IS GOOD Grab the rooted stock ROM here: http://geekfor.me/evo/21/ota1326516/ This is the rooted Stock with the OTA already applied |

Re: EVO Full Root|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Vid
im stuck at "cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image"
it gives me an error saying "cat: can't open '/sdcard/flash_image'": no such file or directory i have downloaded the flash_image.zip and extracted it to my sd card twice so i KNOW its there. i have done toast root and currently running Bugless 0.3 with latest ClockworkMod Recovery from ROM Manager. i have tried connecting as USB and HTC Sync and made sure SD card was mounted so what am i missing? i feel so dumb =(
