How is your phone connected to the PC? Charge Only with USB Debugging enabled? Double check.
The error means that it can find your card or the file.
Ok, I know this sounds simple but double check that the recovery.img file is spelled correctly, that there's no errant spaces or punctuation anywhere in the file name and that it's on the root of the card, not in a folder.

I think that means USB Debugging isnt checked. Please take a look:
Menu/Settings/Applications/Development-you need a green checkmark in the box next to USB Debugging.

Good luck.

Well my suggestion is to start over one more time, no copy/paste, and type it all out, from the PC36IMG.zip part.

Just checking-did you use the PC36IMG posted under the Unlock Nand heading? We cant use the orginal one from Part I. Dont think you'd make it this far if you didn't just want to make sure.

Re: EVO Full Root|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Vid

i typed the reboot recovery and it went to the black screen with the red ! but no yellow writing was at the top so i called up another command screen and copy/pasted
c:\evo-recovery\recovery-windows.batand it pushed thru some files and it went into the recovery mode.
now i just gotta figure out how to get back to recovery to try n flash the custom rom lol
