Finally, I got my evo rooted.
Thank you everyone.
My problem solved as soon as I installed HTC SYNC.
I know a lot of pp were having this problem on section2 2e.

Yes the file unzipped and the files reside in the c:\evo-recovery directory. I know you are trying to help.. it is much appreciated!

USB Debugging is enabled. It seems like the communication between the pc and the evo isnt happening. Just a guess...

Yes!! If I completely root while running the stock rom, then the issue remanifests itself. But it seems like it happens after I flash the recovery.img. Right now I've done everything but the part that makes you type:

cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
chmod 755 /data/flash_image
/data/flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
reboot recovery

After that step, my problems start appearing. But I have done the step prior to this that looks similar, but uses the mtd-eng.img. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but flashing the recovery.img just allows me to boot into recovery without a pc? So basically I'm fully rooted, but I can't boot into recovery without a pc. If that's all I'm missing out on then I'm cool with that.

The first post says I'm rooted if I get a "#" symbol when I run "c:\evo-recovery\adb-windows shell" and thats exactly what I get.

Look at the post above yours, seems he was having similar issues as you. Is HTC Sync installed on your PC? You don't need to run it during the root process but when you install it some file/drivers are installed which may help.
My other thought is *possibly* your USB got knocked out during the process, a few users have reported that.
If HTC Sync doesnt fix it find a post of mine with my Sig and click the link that says "XDA FIX......." the steps in that thread pertaining to USB may help. Gotta work today and my boss doesnt like me staring at my phone so I may not be back on till tonight.

That MAY be correct. Do you have a NAND backup? As per Fast, you can't restore it if you are not fully rooted. Another way to check is to reboot into Recovery with the most up to date ROM Manager, you need full root to do this or it will hang on the red triangle screen. Let us know.

Correction, "As per Fast total guess"

I have no idea if this is true, it was just a speculation.

Also, I don't remember if I posted this info in a post or if I had that in the tutorial and removed it, but now I added a "Before you start" section under Rooting.

Before you start
Before you start anything, your phone needs to be able to connect to the pc. If you haven't done so before, install HTC Sync. There is a folder on the sdcard that contains a version of HTC Sync or you can download a newer version from their site. It doesn't matter which version because you're not going to use it. We just need the drivers installed so the phone can communicate with the PC.
Next, make sure "USB Debugging" is turned ON.
Menu>Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging
If it's turned on, every time you connect your phone to the PC, you'll see "/!\ USB Debugging connected" in the notifications on the phone.

Re: EVO Full Root|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Vid

!!!2 THOSE WITH ISSUES ON ROOTING THE EVO DUE TO CMD WINDOW CLOSING ON YOU!!!

This is an issue most prevelent on Vista and Win7... I had thesame issue and got stuck... luckily, with a little patience and trial and error, I was able to make it work.

1.) Download the files from post 1
2.) Follow steps 1-2B
3.) Jump to post #7 and begin at step #7
4.) At step #10, instead of running the batch file as admin, do the following:
4a.) Click on "START"
4b.) On the search bar type "CMD"
4c.) At the top of the column you will see the CMD.exe
4d.) Right click CMD.exe and run as ADMINISTRATOR
4e.) Type > "cd c:\evo-recovery" after the prompt
4f.) Type > "recovery-windows.bat" after the prompt
****Continue with step #11 through #20****

Voila!!! You have rooted your EVO!!!

PS... YOU NEED TO HAVE THE HTC SYNC INSTALLED FOR THE EVO. I AM NOT SURE IF YOU ALSO NEED THE "android-sdk_r06-windows" DEVELOPER TOOLS BUT IT DOES NOT HURT TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL. I found that without these, the phone will not communicate with the computer.

Hope this helps you guys. Im a n00b to android so I hope my instructions will helps other Android-Virgins out there. Just bought my EVO two days ago. I have only fooled with Android on my Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2...
