Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Any idea how to do this on Verizon with the htc touch pro? All I can find are Sprint related.

I think I saw some info on your question in this thread and/or another thread.
I think Verizon disables Internet Sharing so you first have to download that CAB which is here somewhere and then download www.WMWifiRouter.com
There are others who will be able to tell you if the above info is correct or not.

1st, what kinda fone and network u on??? reason for the er 67, the phone/network is looking for a PAM username. unless u want a PAM plan, have to start over. what did u do before your tried it?? tethering that is.

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Anyone still get the problem that you cannot save the registry edit for this trick? I tried it with the leaked and now official Sprint ROM, basically I could not force the connection to be "Sprint", every time I changed it as long as I moved up a level in registry and came back I would see it was automatically changed back to "Phone as modem".

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I may just stay with the ROM that came with my phone in October as there may be am issue with WM working with the new ROM but I am not sure if the new ROM interferes with Internet Sharing .

Same problem here. On original ROM I'm able to edit the entry. Once updated the ROM to latest release the value keeps on reverting back to "Phone as Modem".

As a workaround I just delete the key and ICS will show you the menu to choose sprint vs PAM. However this does not stick after soft reset. You will have to do it again.

I hope the gurus here can figure this out soon.

HTC_guardian.exe changes some settings back every softreset, not sure if it's responsible for this reg key, but there's a good chance it is.

Htc_guardian.exe is located in device\windows.
Use Resco Explorer or Total commander for this...

FIRST make a copy of HTC_Guardian.exe and put it somewhere in case you ever want to put it back.

Now take the "fake" replacement file I've attached and unzip it (it does nothing, so your key shouldn't change after reset) Take the .exe file and put it on your phone in storage, now using Resco or Total commander copy or move this file to Device\Windows and confirm overwriting the original file.
Attached Files
File Type: zip HTC_CM_Guardian.zip (150 Bytes, 114 views) Click for barcode!

So what.. "else" does this do? What would I be missing by removing/disabling htc-guardian? If this is the hidden kicker I've been looking for I'm super grateful!

Edit, so far its holding. I have reset my phone like 6x in the last few hours to see... I'm obessed.. LOL

It resets some other internet settings to "stock" as well, I've used it since my 6700, 6800, 6900, to enable the use of "open dns" servers (search if you want) for way faster internet connecting, you can change your internet servers from sprint servers to faster ones for faster looking up of websites.

There used to be a shortcut you could just delete in device\windows\startup...... (htc_cm_guardian.lnk) that started it everytime you softreset, but htc activates it some other way now so now it needs to be overwrote.

Not sure of all the other things it resets, but me and others have had no side effects forever, I would imagine each carrier edits the file to reset what they want, like to prevent free tethering.
