Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

All of a sudden the following issue came up:Now when I am tethering, my connectivity window says Phone as Modem. It used to say SPRINT. also even when I am not tethering or even when my phone is idle, my connectivity window says Phone as Modem. I have to go to Communications and turn off Data, then when I start a Data session, my connectivity says SPRINT which is how it should be. But when I tether again my connectivity changes to Phone as Modem. I then have to turn the Data off and start the whole thing all over again. I may have changed a setting inadvertently which is creating this issue but I am unable to figure what is causing this. It may have to do with Activesync or something. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

When you go to internet sharing do you have a choice in the dropdown window to change phone as a modem to sprint? It could be you accidently hit that and it defaults to the last used setting. Check that first.

Did you upgrade to the leaked sprint rom? I recall that there is an issue with the reg edit not sticking on this setup.

Recheck your reg edit to be sure you have it set to either a choice (delete entire key for force cell connection) or Sprint only.. replace "Phone as a Modem" with "Sprint"

Soft reset recently?

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

my connections say sprint except when i am tethering. then it says phone as a modem.
I cannot find a drop down menu where it says Phone as a Modem.
When I go to Internet sharing, the drop down menu says USB and Bluetooth PAN. I have it on USB as always.
I have the stock ROM on my Sprint Diamond.
Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.

"'The Remote Party Has Ended This Connection"
This is the pop up message i am getting when i try to connect with the sprint connection #777.
When i sucessfully tether, it says Phone as Modem and on my connection, it says My Connection and Cellular Line.
Has Sprint started to prevent customers from tethering withiut paying for PAM?
It appears something has changed because i have had no problems for a month.
I did reach 5GB which may have prompted sprint to initiate certain protocols.

Will pdaNet help things out?
If i tether and it says phone as modem, is that an issue?

i aint payin for pdanet. if i cant find a work around, then i'll just have to find a workaround

Since this topic is being HEAVILY discussed, ima add that i would add the PAM plan to my already unlimited data plan, if push comes to shove...lol

fill me in when you do!

if i use PAM, some say that it is not an issue but i don't know.
If pdanet or wmwifirouter is a work around, why not?
but if there is a cheaper work around, I am all for it.

I was just thinking........
Even though my Diamond says Phone as Modem, maybe it doesn't matter. I say this because I thought Sprint has to enable Phone as Modem for it to work when you are Internet Sharing. So if Sprint does not activate it, and it works anyway on certain devices such as the Diamond, then maybe Phone as Modem is just words and no one else can tell the difference regarding whether you are tethering or not.
Would this be a correct assumption?

EDIT:
I signed up for www.WMWiFiRouter.com I am using the trial version of 1.25 for 21 days.
Works great. I don't want to take any chances regarding the Phone as Modem issue.
It is worth a few bucks to me to be able to tether as before. My connection says SPRINT and everything is good.
This app seems to be faster than when i tethered previously.

Installed the cab from the first post on my HTC touch Pro
Enable data
Hit connect in internet sharing and connect the usb cable.
Get connected
On my Vista I get a remote connection #6 enabled BUT I get Unidentified network and Local only.
What did I miss? On the ICS app it show SPRINT under network connection.

Thanks

/Peter
had same issue. I just used the 3rd fix named pam.cab and it worked
