vst_ace (and others). Insurance doesn't exist so that you can pay once and then upgrade to new devices whenever they are released. Filing a false claim like that is insurance fraud.

Would you burn your house down so that you could build a new one with the insurance money? It's the same concept at play.

If you choose to do this, fine. I'm not going to judge you, but at least do so with the awareness that it's insurance fraud.

i just want to say that, my phone legitimately failed, and i have never committed insurance fraud. perhaps i was being less than honest by saying that i would "lose" my phone when the 6800 comes out. i really do have no intention of ripping off sprint, nor do i even see that much of an advantage in the 6800 anyways.

i love my 6700, i paid full price for it, not too long ago. it has had it's share of problems though, so i will not feel bad if it gets replaced by the 6800, if need be.

Just a question for the masses out there, I've been using a 6700 since september of last year. I've gone through two so far (never bothered with insurance) and they've done a warranty swap both times for me for miscellaneous issues. Anyhow, I've been having screen issues lately that aren't related to roms or anything like that (or at least I don't think). Are repair centers in the habit of swapping 6700's out for 6800's especially if you've gone through two devices already?

I'm not exactly looking to screw sprint over, but I have to admit if there were an option to get a 6800 because my 6700 is having legitimate issues, I'd be willing to go that route.

I completely agree that people should by no means commit insurance fraud, but when we pay full price for something, one would think it should work. There are legitimate, known problems with the 6700. Sure they don't effect every model, but I've gone through 2 units myself, both with the same issue (screen alignment and broken usb port). I don't see a problem with wanting an alternative to a phone that you've already paid $600 something dollars for, plus the $50 for each replacement (under TEP).

I actually think it's absurd that someone should effectively have to pay $700+ only to get a non-working (or soon to be non-working) phone. Aside from warranty replacements, Sprint should offer some kind of free-exchange for people who experience common defects. I shouldn't be paying $50 for something that is the fault of the hardware. And by no means should I be paying $50, just to receive a refurbished phone that will likely suffer the same issues, or other issues.

I don't know, maybe I've gone about getting my phone replaced the wrong way, but bringing it into the service center only yields them telling me to call Asurion.

Luckily mine have been under the manufacturers warranty, so all I had to do was take it in, pay 35 bucks for a swap, and that was it. By the way I had the exact same issues as you. Two broken usb ports (they'd only charge if they were plugged into my laptop...tried hard resetting, new roms, all that...just flashed back to stock sprint rom and switched it out.), and now I'm having screen alignment issues.

Don't get me wrong, I love my phone to death because I can toy with it and it's highly functional, but my warranty is almost up and I'm kind of looking for something that's in my best interest without having to fork out a couple hundred on a new phone.

Oh yeah did anyone notice that sprint no longer has 6700's on their website? Maybe if I took mine in for the screen alignment issue I might actually be able to get that desired mogul... le sigh.

I have had mine since October 06, never had a problem with it, and have no idea how so many people manage to go through multiple handsets in months. My guess is, like my last phone, this one will be chugging along for 2 or more years running just as good (well, far better since we have this great gang of nutters hacking away) as it was the day it rolled off the line.

It just irks me that (some) people think the phone company should swap them out with a new device, and (some, not the same necessarily) people complain about the high cost of cell service. Well, if the carriers are bleeding money swapping out devices, they gotta recoup it somewhere.

BTW sprint supposedly has many 10s of thousands of new 6700s for warranty exchanges. Probably got them for a song off UTStarComm.

I'll get off the soapbox now.

Just do what I did. Assuming you have only had the phone for under a year and therefore are under the manufact. warranty.
My email to eCare:
To whom it may concern,
I recently purchased a PPC6700 back in March I think. I paid full price as I did not want to renew my contract at that time. I have had problems hearing some people through the ear piece and had to reset the phone 3-4 times a day. After some help at a store I very rarely have to do a reset. I love the phone but my only complaint is the ear piece is very hard to hear on. I have noticed that a newer version of my phone the PPC6800/Mogul is now available but with no way to get hands on use with it am wary to purchase this phone again at full price since I do not wish to renew my contract but do wish to stay with Sprint for many more years to come. I just like not having a contract over my head, just like having no car payment once your car is paid off. I would love to exchange my PPC6700 for the Mogul, and hope it performs better. Is there anyway I can do an exchange? I will understand a no, but it never hurts to ask as they say.

Thanks

Response I got back:
Thank you for contacting Sprint. I will be happy to assist you regarding handset.

I understand that you wish to exchange PPC 6700 on #1365 for PPC 6800. I have reviewed the account and noticed that the handset is within 1 year manufacture warranty.

Considering your concern, I have processed the order for new PPC 6800 handset and return kit for old PPC 6700 handset from my end. You will receive the handset and the return kit within 3 to 5 days. The order number is BN***95.

Once, you receive the new handset, please return the old handset with the return kit to the address mentioned on the return kit.

Be assured that you will not be charged for the new handset and the contract will not be renewed. Please ensure to return the PPC 6700 along with the return kit to the mentioned address on the return kit.

It was a pleasure assisting you and I look forward to more opportunities to serve you in future.

Thank you for emailing us. Have a great day!

Vinny A.

There's a reason why I'm not an early adopter of new technology/devices...

In the beginning, there's limited external support, a crapload of bugs, and you pay a premium to be one of the first ones to have it....

Yes, it's a little smaller. Yes, it doesn't have an antenna.. but from what I understand, the camera is only marginally better, it's STILL rev. 0, and is really no better than a 'properly modified' 6700, and people are talking about committing insurance fraud to get it?

Am I the only one saying 'WTF?' here?

I would never intentionally damage a device to file an insurance claim.. I may be 'less careful'... tossing it on my couch or seat, whereas normally I'd place it on the table or cupholder, and hope that it breaks, but I wouldn't go out of my way to break the law, for a friggin phone...
