the biggest single thing I've done so far to improve battery life is turn off the wifi. It's been over 7hrs (only 2 phonecalls, and a few emails) and I'm still over 80%. I decided when I looked at the data plan online and it's listed as "unlimited" instead of 5GB (still hard to hit w/o tether or sharing) that I didn't need it hooked to my LAN all the time.
