Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s Oct. 2010

I have couple of Qs:
I have 8BG SD card with some apps installed for WinMO. Can I use same card without reformat to download Android? Otherwise I would lose those apps when I switch to Winmo.
I saw .cab file for Froyo from Project Android. DO I only get to install .cab file and I am good to go?
Thanks

Okay, I get it. I'm a newbie that is chronologically past his prime. Where do I start to learn this stuff? Do I have to take a bazillion IT classes in linux, A+, etc etc? Is there any easy way to learn the fundamentals? Any and All help will be greatly appreciated

Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s Oct. 2010

teradog- thanks for putting this together. I am so bored with WinMo so I thought I'd give Android a go. I had a question after reading all your info and then the info posted over at Project Android. They go into it quite a lot, and make a big deal of taking out your SIM, and if you don't because you need it then follow the GSM build. My phone is a Sprint CDMA, but I use it exclusively on a GSM network. So would I use the CDMA build or the GSM?

Thanks!

GSM sir. Android is a one-or-the-other kinda deal at the moment, even tho our phones are capable of both.

as i don't use GSM at all, arrrghhh seems confident of his answer, go with it.

The reality.... you're putting to much time & effort & research into it! :>)) I say that with good intent! It really is as easy as disabling any OC you have first, install the cab to an old 1, 2, 4 gig SD card, expand it, use a file manager to double click the haret file. You'll see the text go tiny & scoll a ton of stuff by, pause for a 1/2 min, scroll some more, blank, delay, it's running. Done.

Typically at this point I'd say, if you get no network (can't make a call or pull up a web page) then put the SIM in... But, you'll need GSM as you don't have CDMA at all correct? So, you'll need your SIM in.. easy. You may want to look at the GSM forum for TP2's over at XDA if you like to do the research first...

If it doesn't work, try another cab! Delete all the crap & start over... you won't hurt the tp2, just do it. Avoid the Blazen at first... You may need to either have the startup file associated with your network OR run the one of the Windows front end GUI's that usually come in the cab for that droid build if it doesn't work... try it, try it again, try again... you could try all the builds DL, expand cab & run each in the time it takes you to read one of these forums.. when you figure out something new, post it, it'll help others... get stuck.. post the question, don't worry about the critics, there's enough good ones around, you'll have it running tonight!!

yessir...

Been wanting to for a long time but kept putting it off because grad school has been too busy.

Took a study break for just 30 mins and have almost everything the way I want it. Was pretty much quicker than flashing a new ROM.

Still have a lot to learn but now that I have it working, I can take the time to work on it and tailor it to the way I like.

Thanks for the welcome!

David

yeah, you'll fit right in with the prev ROM flashing experience... not that it translates so much but helps you get over the heebie-jeebies of trying out experimental ish lol.
