And let me say that I am not an expert on this, I have never felt the need to run a custom ROM, so I am pretty new at ROM flashing myself.

If you read the forums here and elsewhere, you can infer that the reason no one has posted a simple, easy to follow set of instructions for installing the TEST ROM that is floating around, is that it does not seem to load consistently on different devices. For some people it runs right through, for some it exits with an error at 11%, for some it just pauses there, some have to disconnect and pull the battery part way through, some people need to run lockers or unlockers and there are multiple versions of those, some need to re-enter MSID or MDN, some have to call Sprint to reprovision their phone and some need to run IOTA, some need to load it off of an SD card, etc.

Yes, I used a lot of buzz words there, and it is hard to follow. The point is, this is a leaked TEST program, it does NOT seem to have a stable installer, and you will most likely have some kind of problem installing it and getting it to work. Maybe, if you need step-by-step easy-to-follow instructions, you should consider not trying to install a TEST program in the first 24 hours it is distributed. Sometime in the near future hopefully someone will figure out what is causing the inconsistencies, and be able to write a procedure that will make it easier to load; the installer seems to me to be the worst part of the package. I have not been around here for very long, but this is the first time I know of that the Bootloader was replaced in a ROM package. And maybe these problems are exactly what HTC wanted to hear about so they would know what to fix BEFORE they released the ROM package. What a concept, hey?
I understand what you mean but some people woudl like to take advantage of this who NEVER touch a custom rom and those people are the ones who are having smilar results, due to never "unlocking" their Titan at all.

Man if I knew how, I would make an app that can do it all for them folks. Throw everything together and good to go. But, I'm sure something like that would be a little difficult to actually do. Until then, read up boys n girls...... and keep ya fingers crossed!

Unfortunately, apparently not everyone posting problems even in this thread is starting with an OEM ROM, so it is difficult to tell if those with OEM ROMs all have similar experiences. I have never flashed a custom ROM, and my install of 3.16 required me part way through to unplug the USB cable, remove the battery, replace the battery, and plug the USB cable back in, then stop the install and restart it from the beginning. It doesn't appear that everyone had to do that. After the install, I had to edit the EPST data...something that, if done incorrectly, apparently cannot be fixed by re-flashing even to the old ROM.

And if someone finds a big problem with the test release, have you seen what has to be done to flash back to an earlier ROM? It requires possibly differing custom relockers and unlockers, and you will never have a completely stock device again.

I still think that if you are not comfortable with the terminology, or with mostly finding your own way out of an install problem, you should wait a bit to try this test ROM. It is, after all, only a test release, not meant for general use.

Let me answer the question you have not asked yet...why did I flash the test ROM? I did it because it seems like the vast majority of users who flash the test ROM are not flashing the test PACKAGE...they are flashing the ROM with a different radio, or running it through a kitchen, or not loading the Sprint customizations, or otherwise not doing a vanilla install. I believe that it is likely that HTC "leaked" this ROM on purpose, to give the ppcgeeks community and others like it a chance to do an unofficial Beta test. Unfortunately, not many users are really testing it for HTC, since not many are installing it as released. I flashed the test package in accordance with a thread asking for people to flash the test package as distributed, to see if we could provide some feedback on the released package, in hopes that if we are right, HTC will use that feedback to improve the package before general release. Yes, I realize that is a reason to have more "noobs" try this package, but only if they are willing and able to provide useful feedback to HTC. And if you look through this "noob" thread, you will find several posts even here from people who had a "cooked" ROM before; I do not know if they are trying to install the test package or another cooked version of it.

PLease see this thread (even some in there are not installing the package as released) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=16904

Mastanthony89 your reply in post 31 to bakntyme's comment ....I have to differ. This new ROM with GPS requires you to RE Lock your phone. In order to get a Custom Rom Non Stock you'd have to have already Un Locked your phone. I'm seeking errors on both sides..However the 11% thing looks like people just hitting panic mode...I may have missed a few posts your looking at but I see NooBs pulling this off without a hitch as well as pros over reacting at the 11% mark because they simply didn't read the thread completely...... I agree I may wait until the official release,,,, but since this appears to be a leaked stock release the install ( SD Card Style ) appears to be Cake. Granted I want that horrible audio program removed from my phone and all the default games so my kids can leave my ppc alone and the few other Fun Fun Sprint add ons...but that can all wait until I understand how to cook up my own custom ROM ...So I guess I agree with bakntyme even though the SD card way is Easy enough for a non PC friendly person to do. If you have to ask what a boot loader is you probably should wait until the Official release comes out and still ask your service center to install it for you AND back up your stuff for you ...

My 2 cents ..

I'm a noob
With HTC Home
HTC Customizer.
Total Commander registry editor
More Reg hacks than I can count (I saved a hard copy of the sticky I'm a geek )
You Tube THE REAL ONE with todays New Flashbundle WORKING NOW !!!
way too many tsk files

( again if you dont know what a tsk file is why are you trying to dig into your phone. Its actually a POCKET PERSONAL COMPUTER...you wouldn't do this with your work computer or even your home computer....

and more kewl stuff I cant even remember --- but granted I'm a programmer
I bought this thing to learn Windows Mobile Application Development..
I learned Windows NT, NT Server and the like by tearing them up beating them to death and reinstalling as I exclaimed "well I guess you cant do that ...."

Theres an internet site or two.... for PPC users that don't want to get dirty or take risks this OBVIOUSLY aint it ....

my 25 cents

Peace in Christ
No Offense intended....
whether you received any or not :)

I agree with ChristianProgrammer...
This is really what it boils down to. This software is beta at MOST! I mean it says for testing purposes on the boot screen, so that's saying something. If you are not willing to break your phone, if you REALLY need your phone every day and this is your only means of communication, you should not be upgrading. Plain and simple. Some people want to roll the dice (I'm included) but this is about my 6th smart phone and I've been doing it for years. I'm no expert but I've done it enough that I can work my way through it. I'll be honest and say the internet's a little faster and yep...the GPS is working. BUT...if you're not a UPS delivery man in dire need of a GPS unit, you really can hold off until there's an official release.
On the other hand...I know you won't hold off So I'll just say that throwing it on a FAT32 formatted SD card with the renamed file was about the easiest thing in the world. So if you are concerned do yourself a favor and wipe that snazzy 512 card that HTC was nice enough to give us and upgrade the heck out of it!

Ok it appears that most people having issues running the new ROM update are running Vista on their computer. This is my attempt at a HOW TO. Once you have uptained a copy of the new ROM get this first GetSPC which will help you get the MSL for your phone because, the ROM erases your number or MDID info. Then follow these instuctions Vista ROM Update to update your Vista Operating System on your computer with the drivers needed to do ROM Updates. Once you have followed these instructions you should be able to flash the ROM with no problem, one tip though you may need to reboot your computer before trying to flash the ROM. Give the ROM enough time to flash to your device. Once youur update has completed let all the Sprint customizations install. Then do another hard reset of the device. After that take the battery out of your phone and write down your phone's hex ESN. Transfer the GetSPC cab file to your phone and run it. Onnce the program runs in the Input feel put your ESN in and click ok. Your MSL will appear in the Output field. Thats your MSL. Now go to your phone's dial pad and dial ##778# and click dial. When the ESPT window appears choose Edit. Your now prompted to enter your Unlock Code so go ahead and enter your MSL and click ok. In the lower left corner select View Info and then select NAM Settings. In the Mobile Directory Number field enter your cell phone number., Then in the MSID field enter your cell phone number. Now in the menu option click ok. Then press ok to reset your device. You should be up and running. Thats my attempt at a HOW TO for Vista Users good luck.

Heres a link help get the msl without using that app. Its fairly easy. I'm not a programmer type and I got my msl on the first try.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1263515

I waited about 5 minutes after the registry edit to make sure it saved the change.
