Unfortunately, apparently not everyone posting problems even in this thread is starting with an OEM ROM, so it is difficult to tell if those with OEM ROMs all have similar experiences. I have never flashed a custom ROM, and my install of 3.16 required me part way through to unplug the USB cable, remove the battery, replace the battery, and plug the USB cable back in, then stop the install and restart it from the beginning. It doesn't appear that everyone had to do that. After the install, I had to edit the EPST data...something that, if done incorrectly, apparently cannot be fixed by re-flashing even to the old ROM.

And if someone finds a big problem with the test release, have you seen what has to be done to flash back to an earlier ROM? It requires possibly differing custom relockers and unlockers, and you will never have a completely stock device again.

I still think that if you are not comfortable with the terminology, or with mostly finding your own way out of an install problem, you should wait a bit to try this test ROM. It is, after all, only a test release, not meant for general use.

Let me answer the question you have not asked yet...why did I flash the test ROM? I did it because it seems like the vast majority of users who flash the test ROM are not flashing the test PACKAGE...they are flashing the ROM with a different radio, or running it through a kitchen, or not loading the Sprint customizations, or otherwise not doing a vanilla install. I believe that it is likely that HTC "leaked" this ROM on purpose, to give the ppcgeeks community and others like it a chance to do an unofficial Beta test. Unfortunately, not many users are really testing it for HTC, since not many are installing it as released. I flashed the test package in accordance with a thread asking for people to flash the test package as distributed, to see if we could provide some feedback on the released package, in hopes that if we are right, HTC will use that feedback to improve the package before general release. Yes, I realize that is a reason to have more "noobs" try this package, but only if they are willing and able to provide useful feedback to HTC. And if you look through this "noob" thread, you will find several posts even here from people who had a "cooked" ROM before; I do not know if they are trying to install the test package or another cooked version of it.

PLease see this thread (even some in there are not installing the package as released) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=16904
