Nope, the one in the extras folder is the stock AOSP launcher you would see on the Nexus S. TW Launcher is the Samsung UI kinda like Sense is to HTC.

Yes, you can use visual voicemail with this rom.

The BYOR or "build your own rom" is nice if you want to add just the features you want. Otherwise there is a standard zip in the midNIGHT rom extra folder that you can flash that will install the most commonly used features. I would recommend that for a beginner.

The 4.1 upgrade can be flashed on top of 4.0. All it does is upgrade a few things from the 4.0 rom. It was a way to keep people who were using 4.0 from having to backup their phones when doing the upgrade. I'm thinking that there were not enough changes in the 4.1 upgrade to justify a full rom.

If you do decide to go this route please, please, please read the OP, and the infomation on the lost & tired page. We are very willing to help when you have questions with what you have read.
Thanks for all the help. I read the OP and watched the videos - I'm ready to flash.

Only other concern - is that of battery performance. Other threads seem to suggest updating your kernel, using setcpu, and disabling DRM ... is this all needed after flashing? If so, where are the instructions?

How is GPS? Most reviews I read state that it's an issue... does this ROM fix that?

[KERNEL][GPL]Genocide 1.2GhzOC EB13 Kernel v0.3a (DK28 Compatible) - 2/26/2011 - xda-developers
This is the kernel I use with this rom. I use Titanium Backup Pro to freeze the DRM. I believe I read someone was using an auto startup app killer to do the same. You can check the market for a free one. Honestly battery life for me was a bit better on DK28 but hasn't been a deal breaker on EB13. Then again I'm never far from a charger so it's just not an issue for me. Good luck.

I've been getting great battery life. The 4.1 update includes the Genocide kernel, so no need to flash the kernel separate. Go get SetCPU here: SetCPU for Root Users [2.1.1a] Dual Core Madness 2/27/2011 - xda-developers Install this after you flash the update, then set it to conservative. You can easily go all day with this setup.

Ignore the post in the EB13 battery thread complaining about battery life. They have some other issue (hardware or battery related) that is not common on this device. Note that the battery does drain much faster if you leave your phone in recovery mode for an extended period of time. Also, one other trick to help extend the battery life is to go to settings/applications/running services and kill the DRM app. Another thing you can do is freeze it with Titanium Backup.

I just included the kernel link so he could "read up" on it. Thanks for clearing up my lack of info. It is indeed included in the update. Thanks again.

Re: [ROM] midNIGHT ROM v4.0 (BYOR Edition) 2/24/2011

we shall see on the battery life thing since I find it wildly inconsistent the whole time I've owned the phone. I switched batteries today too witch a cheap one that I bought and put the "real" battery on the charger.

Anyhow, I install both touchw30.zip and swype from CW3 and home switcher never sees touchw30 and when I go to change input methods I never see swype (though I see it in the installed apps.)
