I think my ear hits something if I put the phone up to my head too quickly before the screen lock engages. But that's not the problem, I can figure out how to get it out Emergency Mode. The problem is the resulting notification that "you can only make emergency calls in emergency mode". No mater how many times I dismiss the notification it is still there and can not be cleared unless I turn the phone off, even after exiting emergency mode.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks for your time and help!
Just joined the forum to offer a solution to this problem. Actually stumbled into this very thread recently when I was looking for a solution to the same problem!
Home screen -> Main Menu -> Settings -> Phone -> Security tab -> Emergency Call button -> if you have any numbers programmed here: delete them.
I noticed serendipitously that the stupid "emergency only calls" alert comes on whenever I called one of the numbers I had programmed here (my wife!). Problem disappeared when I deleted the three numbers I had entered. Thereafter, I cannot seem to be able to get that warning to come on.
Hope this works. BTW, called Verizon tech service the same night I found this thread: they are clueless but at least didn't try to snow or b.s. me.
Hope this helps

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!

Hello Syrguy1969,
Thanks for the welcome, sorry for going so straight to the problem, but I am a bit nervous about this situation.
Yes I tried a soft reset. But it still doesn’t work.
How do I do a hard reset? (Is it by turning off the phone, starting it again by holding also the call and end call at the same time?? There the phone says format, will this delete all my information?? {Contacts info, messages, etx…}).
I don’t want to make a mess; could you give me all this details of what you know??
Thanks on advance

First: Backup your contacts, calender info, ect... with Activesync OR SpbBackup for example as you will lose this information upon a hard reset.

Second: Using the stylus, press it in the hole next to the power button at top of the Omnia and hold it in, with it still in, press and hold the two softkeys on bottom face of phone (call and end call keys). With these softkeys still being depressed, release the stylus and wait for the black screen, then release the two softkeys. You should get to a screen shortly that says Format or Cancel (something to that effect)... press the left softkey (call/phone key) to Format. Note: you will retain everything on the "My Storage" - It will not be formatted.

Third: Once your phone reboots, it should be back to factory (default) settings, you can then run your backup or Activesync to get back all your contacts, msg, events,....

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!

Couldn't have said it better lazer9!! I am guessing from the situation though that a backup now (if not done already) is out of the question. I hope sebastoklez did sync with a PC, at least SOME info will be available.

Don't worry about launching into a problem upon joining, that is how most of us found this community, and it is what we are here for!!!!

Let us know how the hard reset goes...if it works, I think we have a few suggestions on how to procede from there (getting a good backup app is a biggie!!). If it doesn't work, it may be time to bring manufacturer's waranty or insurance into play (lets hope not though....always easier if you can solve your own problems....trust me).

True. I should have added, If you use SpbBackup or another utility other than ActiveSync, just do a "custom", "selective", or PIM backup only at this point (you will just be trying to save your contact, msgs, calendar, notes, ect... Don't bother with a FULL or system backup as you will just end up restoring a possible already corrupt registry or such.

Ideally, in the future as I once again learned the hard way, do routine backups while the system is up and running correctly and before installing new tweaks or questionable (non-proven) programs, today plugins, and such. This way you can save a lot of time by having your system restore-able to contain your working programs and tweaks that were already working well.

In your case sebastoklez, it may very well be a hardware - now warrenty issue though but definitely worth trying a hard reset IMO. It is possible if you did any tweaking prior to your issue or installs that after your incident is when the omnia actually did a reset and applied something corrupt as in how my situation was with a bad registry file previously.

Re: Omnia problems and solutions thread!!!

Thanks a lot. I know what you are taking about, but of course I didn’t dare to make a mistake. I am going to try that tomorrow. And I will get in touch with you later.
Really thankful

What's crazy is that I had this problem last night when I actually had to call 911.

Exchange server requires me to have a PIN so I definitely want 911 in that emergency list in case of an emergency where someone has to use my phone, but then it flips out if you actually have to call. I hope VZW is well aware of this.
