Re: Anyone somewhat regretting the TP2 after seeing the HTC Evo 4G?

For all you TP2 users out there wishing for Androidness or just want to play without destroying your TP2, check this thread out.

Android on the TP2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627997

Install to the SD card, hit the icon from within WinMo, the phone reboots, installs linux and then Android. NOT a shell, emulator, but Android.

It's only been around for a month, so there are a few caveats that people are diligently working on -

no speaker for music
battery meter semi functional
no bluetooth
a few other things missing...

...but it runs quick, snappy and Very soon, I'm sure some of the devs out there will be solving the issues...

Have fun!

So I bought my HTC Touch Pro2 from Sprint about two months ago, before the HTC Evo 4G was revealed. It seemed like the best phone for me on Sprint, even though the price made it a little ugly. However, I had been saving for a few months, and I was ready to get one. By the way, I bought this phone for $350 after a $100 rebate. Now the price is $199 for a Touch Pro2 from Sprint, which is ridiculous. Now, after the price has been confirmed for about two weeks of the HTC Evo 4G being only $199, I'm just baffled. This seems like a total ripoff.

Okay then, Sprint users, would you (if you could) trade in your HTC Touch Pro2 for an additional $100 (just a made up upgrade price)? Yeah, you lose the nice keyboard, but the processor speed and RAM are doubled. Plus, bigger screen, better camera (8 MP AND 1.3 MP for front), and 4G in select areas (no 4G in Connecticut, so I don't really care).

In my opinion, this would be a big YES. I'm not saying the Touch Pro2 is a bad phone (sluggish at times, even with good ROMs), but this new Evo 4G is just amazing. I really can't think of anything bad about it.

So, start giving opinions on this issue.
Samah - Sprint does not yet offer 4G coverage in our area so the EVO does not interest me at this time:

http://shop.sprint.com/en/stores/pop...ge_popup.shtml

I saw a post on another site that said a Sprint representative told a customer that Connecticut would not get 4G until December or January 2011 (who knows?). I would have no regrets if I were you. There are a ton of good ROMS and even a good stock Sprint WM6.5 ROM out and a ton of programs that work great.

You didn't make a mistake.

Another SERO customer here...I dont regret it at all. Upgrading to the cheapest EPRP plan, plus the cost of the phone ($199.99) would mean an extra $920 in two years. The EVO is nice, but not a grand nicer.

This is where most people are getting it wrong. The MINIMUM price for the Evo is $439.00 due to the "Cool Tax" of $10.00 a month being added onto the cost of the phone over a 2yr contract FOR FEATURES YOU CAN USE OFF NETWORK!!!! Thats the rip off!!!

Re: Anyone somewhat regretting the TP2 after seeing the HTC Evo 4G?

No regret at all, try EVO one day and return next day. I cannot live without physical keyboard, bt headset cannot initiate the call, internet speed is slow even I have full signal bar in 3G area, I will wait until there is 4G in CA so TP2 is still my baby. Don't get me wrong, EVO is an amazing phone but android software still has some bugs in it, price plan for EVO is expensive.

Re: Anyone somewhat regretting the TP2 after seeing the HTC Evo 4G?

I'm not with Sprint and I don't have SERO, but I don't regret purchasing my TP2 at all. I got it around November 2009, and I haven't regretted it yet.

I agree with some of the other posters about not getting the EVO due to lack of a hardware keyboard. That keyboard is good for much more than inputting letters faster; I can play games better, don't have to get rid of my dpad, etc.

Re: Anyone somewhat regretting the TP2 after seeing the HTC Evo 4G?

Just got my TP2 3 weeks ago for free. Had original HTC TP then after a couple of years went to try Blackberry, had the 9630 Tour. Nice phone but missed the touch screen, full keyboard, awesome memory and vivid graphics. Had my TP reactivated but there were problems Sprint couldn't solve so they sent me a Touch Pro2. I really like it and after seeing the EVO I'll stay with my TP2 for awhile. TP2 has the full keyboard but also has better battery life. Yes the EVO has a 8 gig mem but with my 32 gig sd card I'm not worried about that.

Okay so just my 2 cents. Ive played with the EVO and I also have a TP2 and In my honest opinion the EVO was just boring to me. Its just an app based phone. Everything the EVO can do the TP2 can do plus more besides the fact of being 4g capable. But 3g is not that bad to be honest. And U have to be in an area that has 4g speeds to even be able to use the 4g feature. Yeah its snappy and the screen is huge but seriously my TP2 can and will always be able to do more than the EVO. Can the EVO turn into a windows mobile device???? MY TP2 CAN TURN INTO AN ANDROID!! Nuff said. I wouldnt trade my TP2 in unless a TP3 came out. With 4g of course. Not to mention I HAVE A SLIDE OUT KEYBOARD!!! NUFF SAID!!!
