Re: Droid does.......not

The thing that bothers me more than anything else is its total lack of fully syncing to any email system other than gmail. When I got the phone I figured I'd just switch to gmail, but I hate gmail. You shouldn't have to change your email just to be able to use it on your phone. So I end up using my hotmail and having to delete the same messages every time i sit at my computer or check on line.

You should reconfigure the account setting on the Droid to use the IMAP4 protocol (instead of POP3 which it sounds like you are using presently) so that the changes you make on the phone will reconcile with the mailbox (meaning you wont have to delete the same messages every time you go to your webmail.)

Thats understandable, but if thats the case, give us some space to actually store the apps on.

There is plenty of space on the Droid. Most programs only store a few kilobytes in device memory. I have had 60 or 70 programs on my Droid when I was playing around. Big programs like games and other items can and do store extra needed things on the SD card already. You have to remember that this is not like other OSs.

I'm not even sure why the Milestone gets better updates especially since many more Droid units were sold.
I did not know about the system EQ...now that's something I would really like to have! Even though the stock sound out of the Droid is the best I have heard from any mobile device so far, my new headphones are a little lacking in the bass sometimes and it would be nice to be able to bump that up just a tad. Have you seen instructions somewhere for installing the Milestone EQ on the Droid?

Re: Droid does.......not

Let me clarify, I have two of these, one bone stock and one likely as tricked as any.

Coming from a fully tricked out winmo, these make me wonder if they actually tried using these before releasing them.

I dont want to have to do triple back flips to attach other than jpegs to email

I dont want to have to see 10 gigs worth of thumbnails when attaching a picture to an email, wouldnt be so bad if it had a positive scroll but better would be for it to see that all those pix are in albums.

Maybe its just me but it sure seems to be seriously crippled in some ways I think ate quite reasonable to take for granted.

Bizarre in many ways but I do enjoy the seriously massaged one, lightning fast.

Just too much work and wtf kinda stuff they should have handled before deciding its ready to market.

I think I'll get another and try making it like ubunto with firefox.

I downloaded this and gave it a try and it sucked. You still have to fiddle with the phone and, in a quiet room, I tried to call a single number 10 different times and it has yet to have gotten the correct contact. Just for the benefit of the doubt, I gave it a try in the car. No radio, window up, heat off and it still couldn't find a contact. I read all the instructions and definitely have less than the 1000 contact max where the dev says you may have problems. All I would really like to see is for Android, on activation of the bluetooth earpiece button, start voice dialer and listen through the earpiece. I use the voice dialer function on the phone all the time and it is relatively accurate, but you have to fiddle with the phone to use it. Anyway, I hope, since several forums have this complaint listed, that Google will add this feature in the future.

Thanks for the tip anyway, it was worth a try.

Re: Droid does.......not

My gripes mostly concern the car dock. As fall as I can tell, the only thing the magnet does is launch the car homescreen (lame). The car dock would be sooooo cool if the designers had used a little more common sense.

Entry-level basic functionality for the car dock should include:
1. Default to speaker phone. Better yet, in settings you should be able to select a default for car dock--Choose speaker or bluetooth as the default when docked.

2. Landscape phone screen. Now, whenever you're in a call the contact photo and buttons are sideways. What a basic oversight. C'mon Moto. Fix this.

3. Voice search through bluetooth. My Droid doesn't understand me unless I'm stopped, the air is off, and the radio is off. This defeats the whole benefit of voice input while driving. Using voice search through your noise-cancelling/reducing bluetooth headset would probably help a lot.

4. Moto/Verizon should have included a car friendly dialer. One that doesn't require accuracy to tap the right spot (admit it! you've tried to scroll through your contacts to get to a number while driving, haven't you! It's very hard). They should let you dial your favorite contacts by simple gestures--double tap anywhere, triple tap, 4 taps, etc. or better yet, draw a big number 1, 2, 3, etc. with your finger. Again, no accuracy should be required.

I'm not a rocket scientist, but each of these features would be simple to implement and it's a shame Motorola completely missed the boat on the car dock. Sooo not useful.

There are a lot of things that make me go "hmmm" ... and I wonder who to blame. VZW/Moto/Google?
There are a bunch of things that are not intuitive and other things people take for granted that are just not included. There are a few things that just can't be done or can't be done without "hacking/tweaking", but most of those are insignificant to the masses.

But being able to attach files to email or gmail is one example of something anyone would naturally expect to be able to do and one of the things that I "wonder who to blame". If you simply install the free OI File Manager from the Market, then when you go to attach something you will then have the option to browse Gallery or OI File Manager. So why weren't things like this pre-installed by Moto/VZW/Google?
