Droid does.......not

How about a list of things that your out of the box droid does not do that you feel that it should without having to invent scripts or hunt apps?

1)be able to browse and interact with the entire net like most any five year old desktop clunker
a)upload to photo and file hosting sites
b)list an auction or item on craigslist or ebay complete with text and pix regardless of pix ate on your droid or already hosted on the web
c)porn and such....view or download
d)a browser that makes sense with more logical heirachy determining what should be one touch and what should require holding your mouth right, forty gestures and the secret handshake

2)A decent camera for crissakes! Keep the bogus megapixels and gove me the TP's 3.2 which even works in low light. A camera on the front too.

3)A keyboard with cursor arrows since cap touch does not recognize pin point stylus inputs like the resistive screens do.

4)Adobe, unforgiveable. Port ubunto 8.04 on and make it work. This unit has the horse power although a gig of ram, which by the way you folks need to make extrenally upgradeable, would be teats.

I have more but intrested in seeing if any of you care to tell verizon and google things you expect right out of the box.

Pointing to apps which do this or that is fine and dandy.

This is not a droid bash thread, but a consensus to outline reasonable expectations.

It is getting old to keep regarding capable devices as 'almost a near perfect and great phone'

Re: Droid does.......not

Mutli-touch. First and foremost. The hardware is capable of it, so why not an OS that takes advantage of that?

I don't mind the Dolphin Browser for internet. It allows what I need, and has multi-touch. Including your c) option if needed. Flash is "coming soon" and will be a VERY welcome addition for sites.

I agree that the camera is absolute garbage. Lower resolution cameras have been better than this one. Even the Eris has a 5.0 with no flash and looks a lot better.

The soft keyboard with an ALT screen with arrow keys could be a good addition. I usually end up sliding out the physical keyboard, but seems to defeat the purpose of using the touchscreen.

Overall, I love the phone. Nothing is ever perfect, and I prefer they fail on the camera front rather than put out a crappy screen or an OS that is nothing more than a roach motel wrapped in pretty resolution.

Re: Droid does.......not

My wishlist item that I think is a complete debacle with this phone is the inability to access voice dialing via a bluetooth earpiece. My old Motorola Razr did it with ease and was almost perfect at getting the correct contact as did my WinMo phone. You would think that in these days of "You better keep your hands on the wheel" driving that would be a given on most phones. The problem is that there isn't even an app out there that addresses the problem.

Just my 2¢ worth.

Actually there is. Voice Dialer HF. It's on the market.

Re: Droid does.......not

Personally I would prefer a more vanilla stock droid with nothing but the most basic of utilities preinstalled. (Phone and Market)

I want complete customization and the ability to only add apps I want. Nine times out of ten I prefer a 3rd party application over ones created by the OS and or Hardware manufacturer.

For me the primary weakness is the lack of being able to uninstall pre-loaded apps. But I also acknowledge the bluetooth issue as that's definitely a limitation of the OS. Voice Dialer HF still requires that you handle your phone. I would like true hands free.

Google was quoted as working on this at the last conference where the Nexus One was unveiled. They are concerned with security and DRM type encryption.

Re: Droid does.......not

How about just plugging it into your pc and having it give you options immediately like internet sharing, wifi routing, sd mounting, device perusing and syncing with outlook. I know they google kept the os clean and simple but it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to flash hspl and a new rom to my old apache 4 years ago, it took me 2 hours nearly to figure out how to backup, root, and flash 2.1 on this bad boy. I don't think I'm retarded?

Re: Droid does.......not

All I want is for Motorola to stop giving the Milestone better updates than the Droid. The multitouch browser, multitouch gallery, and system EQ are present in the Milestone but to get them in the Droid, you have to go through a bunch of steps. I'm not even sure why the Milestone gets better updates especially since many more Droid units were sold.
