Re: Droid does.......not

My gripes mostly concern the car dock. As fall as I can tell, the only thing the magnet does is launch the car homescreen (lame). The car dock would be sooooo cool if the designers had used a little more common sense.

Entry-level basic functionality for the car dock should include:
1. Default to speaker phone. Better yet, in settings you should be able to select a default for car dock--Choose speaker or bluetooth as the default when docked.

2. Landscape phone screen. Now, whenever you're in a call the contact photo and buttons are sideways. What a basic oversight. C'mon Moto. Fix this.

3. Voice search through bluetooth. My Droid doesn't understand me unless I'm stopped, the air is off, and the radio is off. This defeats the whole benefit of voice input while driving. Using voice search through your noise-cancelling/reducing bluetooth headset would probably help a lot.

4. Moto/Verizon should have included a car friendly dialer. One that doesn't require accuracy to tap the right spot (admit it! you've tried to scroll through your contacts to get to a number while driving, haven't you! It's very hard). They should let you dial your favorite contacts by simple gestures--double tap anywhere, triple tap, 4 taps, etc. or better yet, draw a big number 1, 2, 3, etc. with your finger. Again, no accuracy should be required.

I'm not a rocket scientist, but each of these features would be simple to implement and it's a shame Motorola completely missed the boat on the car dock. Sooo not useful.
