Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

Thanks everyone for posting everything. The info has been great so far.

Just FYI I am using the Verizon MR1 rom with an old valhalla server. I have the original server before it came as a .cab so I dont know if anything has changed on it. Never bothered to look to be honest.

At any rate I started keeping track of this thread a week ago. Up until today the only reg setting I changed was the valhalla gps mode. For whatever reason using sole gps with no agps on my phone has been flaky at best. It always has been even with the old titan unlock stuff and the other roms.

Anyway after reading thourghly today I changed to the telus agps server and tried a couple others and they all work great for me. I switched back to the original IP that comes stock with valhalla and it stopped working again. I guess the server valhalla sets default on install is dead. I dont know which one that is to be honest. The IP valhalla had originally in the registry on my phone was not the verizon server others have listed on here. This may only be useful for valhalla people. But another confirmed working here with valhalla with a different agps server.

On a side note accuracy still seems off by about 20 feet. Before this little problem accuracy with the gps was almost always dead on for me. I guess 20 feet is livable though.

I am curious about some settings that could affect that but need a bit more information from you....Could you fill in the blanks below for the settings in your registry?

GPS Mode =
QoSAccuracy =
QoSPerformance =
EnablePDEIPFromNV =

And in QPST do you have Mobile or PDE setting?

Thanks

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

GPS Mode = 2
QoSAccuracy = 64
QoSPerformance = 10
EnablePDEIPFromNV = Dont have this registry key

Like I said before today the only thing I ever changed was the gpsmode to turn off agps in vahalla. Today I reset the mode to 2, changed the IP to the telus agps server, and changed the fix rate to 300 milliseconds because the standard 1000 was to slow for my liking. But even before changing the rate it was still as inaccurate. The inaccuracy didnt start until this whole mess started a week or so ago along with everyone else loosing agps.

As for qpst I never bothered with with that. As I said before valhalla I used some other rom along with the titan unlucker and whatnot. After I read about valhalla I used that right away.

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

Mepis,

Check out this doc I found here, you may want to adjust these settings upward to a max of 255 and test while driving using a program to track how far off you are with each. Report back as I would be interested to see some empirical results.

REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\QoSAccuracy = Relative fix accuracy requested. Defaults to 64. (Max of 255, higher values request a more accurate fix, but this may increase the time to acquire a fix.)

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

So is anyone getting a reliable lock using the Valhalla cab? I have only gotten one lock this week and that was with agps off. I have yet to get even a single sat with agps on and it is getting frustrating. My settings have been the ones I listed in post 127 for the last two days. If Sprint had the Diamond 2 out, I think I would jump ship right now.

I am running the official 6.1 Verizon version with the original Valhalla fix before the .cab and these were the settings that were used:
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\Mode=2 (the original value)
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEAddress=5C8BC6D8
HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEPort=8889

The only thing that I did yesterday was another soft reset and it was working. I live in the upper Westside of Manhattan. I had both Google Maps and WLS working in 2 locations so far. They were Times Square near my office in the West 30's & Broadway/7th Avenue and the upper Westside near Lincoln Center where I live. I checked it again this morning at 7 AM walking my dog and it was still working.

I am getting reliable fast locks with agps off (Mode=0)
with Google, WML & even Copilot (with GpsGate)

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

OK then something else is at work with me if you are getting those locks. Ive been on the verge of a hard reset for a couple of weeks so I think I'll go ahead and do that and then rebuild to these settings. Thanks for the information.

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore

I changed the accuracy key but it seems to have done nothing. It took close to 20 seconds to get a lock but that was expected with it jacked to 255. I am sitting in my house right now comparing accuracy with a satellite image zoomed in on google maps so I will try again later while Im out on the road. Last night while I was using strict GPS with agps disabled I was getting 4 locks inside my house with the same inaccuracy and about the same distance off. I am getting 7 locks this morning with agps enabled again on the telus server. I dont think it's entirely the agps's faultfor the inaccuracy, but while I was using the default agps server a couple weeks ago that was in valhalla before it went out I was never more then 10 feet off actual location and that was when I was speeding around town. So the cause is still kinda unknown to me.
