someone told me that both voice and data channels can be used for AGPS, this is a matter of taste or choice of the provider... |

Re: Using bell GPS in the US
OK, so theres a difference with official new bEll ROM, where one does not need data.. at least when I tried, no arrows in the startmenu bar appear, and
no connection established can be seen in netstats of dotfred task manager... |

Whether it's because of AGPS or something else I don't know. All I know is that data does seem to help with having more sats and more locks and stronger signals. Are you using the Bell rom right now? Have you tried turning off data, as well as blocking data with "no data" or something similar? See if you get just as fast a lock with as many locks and see as many sats as when data is on. Do this from a cold start since once you get a lock it seems to already know which sats are around the area. This caused me to think all was ok, but after I started experimenting, I've noticed a difference when data is on/off. I'm not sure if it's something in the registry or not...AGPS or something else. |

and I did arrive to exactly the opposite conclusion - I did NOT notice any difference with data on/off.. I turned the data off, and I waited for about an hour, which is enough for ephemeris data to expire, so that GPS starts "from cold"... Then I started GPSviewer, and was looking at the (absense of) arrows in the connection icon, as well as at the net stats in dotfred taskman... nothing even changed, and the GPS lock was as fast as usual - under half a minute from cold.. from this I conclude that AGPS does not need data... Furthermore, if I swith the voice off as well (airplane mode) now I have to wait few minutes for GPS to lock.. from this I conclude that AGPS does use voice connection.. well, now, I'll double check these observation in the course of nearest few days..
