Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

I'd be willing to bet there are more than two versions of the screens. not just "good," and "bad."

Anyhow, I was looking at the screen, and it seems to be visible horizontally and vertically from pretty good angles. I took it outside under very bight sunlight and it was visible but to a very reduced degree.

Is the bad screen very, very obvious, because I'm not sure which one I bought.

Is there any definite test with a certain program or webpage as a reference?

Thanks!
The difference, if you look at the pictures and the video are VERY obvious. The lesser screen, the only way to see if dead on..

P.S. Welcome by the way...

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

THERE IS HOPE FOR THOSE OF US WITH CRAPPY SCREENS!

I just went into the Sprint store, to pick up my fourth Vogue, because of the dark spots, and I told them there was no point in having it looked at by a tech, because this is a well-known problem. He was a bit concerned that I was on my fourth phone, and offered me any other phone I wanted. I told him I really wanted the Vogue, just one that had a working screen.

His supervisor said to just give me (another) new one. He pulled three boxes out of the cabinet, in case it took that many to get a good screen.

Well, the first one he pulled out was perfect. He could tell instantly, just by looking at the HTC splash screen.

Three other employees, and a manager, all came over to see the difference, as they had never seen it in person, (the comparison.)

It was night-and-day. They couldn't believe I was remotely happy with my old one, especially with the dark spots.

The new screen is amazing:
-Perfectly viewable in daylight. Only slightly diminished in DIRECT BRIGHT sunlight... That's something my old one couldn't even come close to.
-Screen feels more solid. Doesn't "squish" nearly as much.
-No "rainbow" effect when I push the screen, (at all.)
-Colors are incredibly vibrant. I would compare to the iPhone. No kidding.
-VIEWING ANGLE! - I can see it from all angles, just like I'm looking at my plasma TV... Amazing...

This is a day of days.

So to those of you who have the crappy screen, go in, and see if you can get your hands on a NEW vogue.

This one was manufactured on 1/23/2008, if that can help with referencing this problem.

Wow, I can't get over how great the screen looks. I really had no idea how crappy my old one is.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Yeah, just ask. If they say no, ask if you can talk to the manager.... Tell them that you've had several refurbs (I had,) and you heard that a lot of the newly-manufactured ones have the good screens. I even went so far as to explain that ALL Verizon phones have the good screen. After a quick showing of my phone going negative by tilting the screen less than 50 degrees, he said that's all he needed to see. The manager was shocked to see how bad it was.

So now, I have THREE retail boxes, with THREE of everything, except someone stole my original wall charger. Now I only have two

Pretty slick. I even got the 512MB card this time, even though I pulled my 4GB. So I have 2 x 512, and my 4GB. He said he absolutely didn't need, or want it.

I've been home about 30 minutes, and I'm nearly done flashing to the leaked ROM, and then I can run PPST.exe to upgrade my PRI. I just need to pick the lastest good ROM. Dharvey's works great, and is mostly stock, but I'm unable to run Jivetalk, because of some sort of incompatibility... Guess we'll see...

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Any angle I view it from, I see the complete image. I no longer get that weird effect that hurt my eyes when I watch SprintTV in landscape mode.

The coolest thing so far, is daylight viewability.

It feels like Christmas morning, when I was a toddler! It's almost better than... well, not really, but it comes in a close second!

I think I do have the good screen. Manufactured date is in 2/08 if that helps.

We should post over at the OFFICIAL Sprint forum which is moderated by people who actually work at Sprint. It seems that the users over there have been able to successfully lobby for certain things so we should try to get someone's attention over at those forums. Here's the link:
