Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

what do you need to exchange your phone at the sprint store?
Does it need to be within 30 days? I'm guessing not
Do you need paperwork. I'm guessing not
Do you need the original box and all the accessories? Maybe this is dependent on the store you go to.
Do you need insurance?

All you need is your phone and insurance. make sure you grab your SD card out of it first though. Did that one time. thank god the Tech checked before he sent out my phone and actually installed it in my replacement for me. I was quite surprised. But then again, every knows me at the sprint store.

You just need insurance, and a nice Sprint employee/manager who is willing to fix the problem.

It's always nice to go in with more than JUST the viewing angle problem... if you have the spots, you are set.

Otherwise, come up with some other stuff, like perhaps SD corruption, or sluggishness?

I just went into the Sprint store, to pick up my fourth Vogue, because of the dark spots, and I told them there was no point in having it looked at by a tech, because this is a well-known problem. He was a bit concerned that I was on my fourth phone, and offered me any other phone I wanted. I told him I really wanted the Vogue, just one that had a working screen.

His supervisor said to just give me (another) new one. He pulled three boxes out of the cabinet, in case it took that many to get a good screen.

Well, the first one he pulled out was perfect. He could tell instantly, just by looking at the HTC splash screen.

Three other employees, and a manager, all came over to see the difference, as they had never seen it in person, (the comparison.)

It was night-and-day. They couldn't believe I was remotely happy with my old one, especially with the dark spots.

The new screen is amazing:
-Perfectly viewable in daylight. Only slightly diminished in DIRECT BRIGHT sunlight... That's something my old one couldn't even come close to.
-Screen feels more solid. Doesn't "squish" nearly as much.
-No "rainbow" effect when I push the screen, (at all.)
-Colors are incredibly vibrant. I would compare to the iPhone. No kidding.
-VIEWING ANGLE! - I can see it from all angles, just like I'm looking at my plasma TV... Amazing...

This is a day of days.

So to those of you who have the crappy screen, go in, and see if you can get your hands on a NEW vogue.

This one was manufactured on 1/23/2008, if that can help with referencing this problem.

Wow, I can't get over how great the screen looks. I really had no idea how crappy my old one is.
Hate to burst the bubble. Dude, you just got lucky. My current one was made in Feb 2008, still has "waterwave" and limited viewing angle.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

ugh, I don't have insurance, so I'm out of luck, eh?
don't you ahve to pay a $50 deductible with insurance anyway?
no luck for warranty coverage though manufacturer?

On another note, I got another htc touch for a family member. It was also bad. The two bad phones placed next to eachother look almost identical in crappiness. So I believe there really is mainly two different screens (probably depends who manufactured what batch), not many different variations. This would explain why that one sprint empolyee poster got 20 bad phones at his store, all the same manufacturing batch.

I compared a good phone vs bad phone in the sunlight. They are both pretty much equally bad. The good phone was a tiny bit better, but nothing that makes a real difference, so I don't count it as a real advantage.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Mine is hard to tell. It looks pretty good from all viewing angles except when you try to tilt it and view it from the top. From the left, right, and bottom is good though.

I can also view the phone outside in the sun, but it is a lot more difficult to see outside than indoors.

I'm guessing I have the bad screen, but I'm still ok with it.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Just got my Verizon Touch in the mail today and the first thing I did when I booted it up was checked the screen out. I'm seeing the same quality image from all angles so it looks like I ended up with a good screen! It was also very vivid outside as I messed around with it as I was going to grab the mail.

Does anyone know if the lcd screens between the verizon touch and the sprint touch are interchangeable?

Bingo. My screen is just like yours I think. It does wash out somewhat when left, right, and bottom, but it's most noticeable (very noticeable) when tilted and viewed from the top.

I'm not happy that I have a bad screen, but I'm not particularly angry about it either. Maybe if I saw a good one in real life, I would be more upset. But for now, I'm fine.
