Lightbulb Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=803&view=1

According to the general specs, the Vogue 100 has a color transflective TFT screen.

Graphical subsystem

Display Type: color transflective TFT
Display Color Depth: 16 bit/pixel (65536 scales)
Display Resolution:
240 x 320 (76800 pixel)
Display Diagonal:
2.8 " (72 millimetres)
Viewable Area:
1.7" x 2.3" (43.2 x 57.6 millimetres)
Dot Pitch:
0.18 millimetre/pixel
Graphical Controller:
Qualcomm MSM7500

Remember the older laptops, with screens that were hard to view at angles then they came out with Activematrix screens which were viewable at angles. You will notice this as well with the LCD TV/Monitors, some have horrible viewing angles.

This is also noticeable in quality buy how vivid the colors are. The Darker Black the screen is the more vivid the other colors are. Like when Sony was made in Japan, and trinitron was the shinitt..

Also it seems some screens are made in Korea, China and Taiwan.

On my mogul the, Taiwan screen is darker black with vivid colors (it also has the Pocket PC on the face). My refurb mogul is grayish and colors washed but more viewable in sunlight, made in China (no Pocket PC on front).

Anyone at Sprint tech notice different manufacturing contries making a difference on the screen quality?

Today IMHO most Korean screens (made by Samsung) are the most vivid.

Anyone have true specs for other units, not just the general ones? I have also noticec that as manuafacturers continue to make units, they interchange parts from others suppliers, sometimes varying the ram, screens and even main chips by slightly different but compatible variations (booth good and bad).

-CC

EDIT: Passive matrix was the name of the older stuff used..

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

My friends, I do believe to get a good screen is like gambling since so far I haven't found any order to determine good from bad based on manufacturing date and stuff.

Personally i've been through 5 Sprint Touch, my own, friend's and the demo from stores. The production date ranges from 07/07 to 02/08, all of them have quite limited viewing angle (especially Horizontal direction in Portrait mode which you watch TV and stuff with), and the worse part is everyone has the "waterwave" problem which might be highly possible lead to the "smudge" or "dark spot" on screen later on.

It's good to see some friends finally decide to take the screen apart and do some testing plus statistics. But to be frank, I gave up the idea about a month ago and live with the one I have. I'm just astonished to see a lot of HTC lovers to bash the similar threads, blaming the users for nit-picking and finding all sorts of excuses for HTC's crappy quality control.

If they sold tires that didn't wear out or go flat.. How long would the tire co be around?

They just can not make the "perfect" anything..

It's on purpose IMHO, just to have us always wanting something Bigger, Better, Faster..

P.S. By the looks of the poll, it seems many Sprint users have a good screen...

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Yeah, I have a bad screen too, and it has developed the "smudge" or "dark area" on the face of the screen. I will be taking it back to get it replaced, but after reading this, I wonder if I should wait and see where this goes?

Also, can someone explain why that "htcuser" dood got banned? What is flaming? Sorry just a bit of a noob on some stuff still I guess.

well considering hes had to be blocked on 5 different screennames now he obviously has some issues besides breaking the rules on making multiple screenames.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

i dont undesrstand how there are people that get mad over having a bad screen. i am one of those that were unlucky in the draw, and i have no plans on returning it.
can someone really hate htc for designing a better screen "post" release of their product? its hard to believe they did it in order to stimulate sales.
I bet if no one knew their screens were bad to begin with, there would be no complaints on how sh*tty the screen quality is

and if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

I don't hate them, but I don't want to give them a pass for just giving us poor quality gear either.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Well personally Im not angry I got the bad screen just a little disappointed. I don't have a problem with the screen as much as I care about consistency. If all the screens had the same viewing angles and problems, then that's understandable, but it sorta sucks that some people get great screens and its luck of the draw while we all pay the same price.

I'm going on the premise that I have one of the "bad" screens on my Sprint Touch. One of my students just picked up a Verizon Touch and his screen looks like mine. He hasn't even put a screen protector on his.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Verizon always tends to come out with phones and updates a bit later, for a reason, they are pickier and want something better usually. Picker client base willing to pay for it?

Perhaps that's why they have a slightly higher initial cost on their phones, they opt'd for a better screen. And offset with higher rate plans.

That doesn't mean HTC is using poor quality, Sprint is about "getting the job done" and doesn't effect use.. If they are able to offer a decent phone and cut a few corners and pass on the savings to the consumer, I am all for it. I am sure Sprint had a choice..

I personally like my phone, I've liked most if not all the HTC offerings. I am happy they are in the market, if not we'd have little competition and still have HP IPAQs or some sort of Samsung device.

Consider, most WinMo devices are very similar in hardware and specs.. It's the extra effort put forth by HTC, i.e. HTC Home Plugin (alone), that makes a world of difference.

I think only Treos have had something extra done for them (winmo units are made by HTC anyways).. Samsung has a clock(s).

Compare, RIM, Motorola, Nokia, Sony Erricson, their offerings are limited and boring at best.. LG interesting, Danger promising, but limited.

What I would love to see is more Sony Erricson devices, remember when Sony made a Palm OS based PDA with that nice clear screen higher rez CLIQ.. But they wanted a premium price compared to the other Palm devices..

How many of you would have paid an extra 50-100$ premium for a better screen and how many would have been put off on the higher price?

Most of us are frugal.. my $0.02 cents,

-CC

P.S. Would you buy an HTC Diamond for $500 with a slightly less viewable angle than a $800 one with better screen? Don't forget the offset phone plan of $60-100 instead of $30-60 to recover costs..
