Re: Anyone using iGO 8

Just messed around with iGo8 for a few hours and I'm really impressed. The POI database is really good in this version and it's finding places other GPS units/software I've used have not found! The 3D elevation feature is pretty cool and I'm really surprised at how well this program is running. I was expecting the animation to be somewhat choppy due to our phones having a lack of video drivers, but it was moving very fluidly. It was even this way when I flew around some areas where I knew there would be 3D buildings.

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

Anyone got the dem files to work for canada? I have the maps and they are working great... I turned on the detail for 3d at high... I just cant seem to see anything really pronounced when it comes to a really steep street. I saw this video here... anyone has that as some result?

I'm having the same problem. I don't believe the 3D buildings and terrain are working for Canada, at least not in Vancouver, BC. May be when we get an official release of igo 8 for north america will we see something that works for us.

Glad i hear that from you aspalaasn... In order to test if i was a code 18(18 inch from the touch), i downloaded australian maps and dem file and building and installed them just like i did for my canada maps... They were working just like in the video... So either we got wrong dem files that are just a bogus or it just wont work with the current maps(2007).

Any other canadians confirm this?

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

As far as I know the dem files don't cover all areas. I can see a mild amount of elevation in my area within the USA.

Yup, same here, in Montreal, I don't seem to have any 3d like in the youtube video posted above. No matter though, it would be nice, but this program rocks anyways!

Do you have it in the 3D option that basically places the camera right behind the arrow so it looks as if you are viewing the road on the screen from the same angle you view the road from your car? That seems to be the best way to see any sort of elevation. I was just on the road testing the GPS and spotted a small dip in the road while driving when in this view.

On a side note, iGo really needs to fix the text to speech. It likes to call my street name Doctor instead of Drive lmfao.

Also the GPS signal strength bar on the map/nav screen does not seem to display correctly. It just was always showing full bars for me despite when going into the GPS viewer within the program being told in there that I only had a average signal.

Other than that this program flat out rocks.

You can edit pronunciations with the dictionary files in iGo8/tts_loq/*choose your language*/

The files will be named something like EnglishUs6.9.lex, depending on the voice you are trying to modify. Edit them with a text editor (wordpad, etc.) I think there are some dictionary files already out there if you go looking.

ex:

"Dr" = "Drive"

Edit: On a related note, how well do the high quality voices work for you Vogue users? They cause out of memory errors on my Mogul after a few minutes. The low quality TTS voices work OK, but there is a noticeable difference in audio quality.

I opened up the lex file in wordpad and notepad but all it does is show unrecognizable characters. Can you give more details on how to edit the lex files?

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

I'm not sure what format the originals are saved in, but here is a sample of a more complete dictionary file. You should be able to open it with Wordpad/MS Word.
