Re: Anyone using iGO 8

thanks for the article, it's very informative. It didn't say much about whether the assistance is done via data or not but seeing as we have the gpsone chip and there's the pde ip address found under the gpsone settings, leads me to believe that we need data for aGPS. I didn't build advance config into my rom so I guess I can't change it. Do you happen to know if the advance config is the advance config(Schaps config) found in the kitchen? Do you know what it does, like does using it change the registry settings? maybe it disables assisted gps that way. I just don't want to rebuild/reflash another rom if I can just do the same thing by changing the registry as with advance config.

Your testing would suggest that the cell tower "assistance" is using a data route.

I turned off aGPS by using a program called Advanced Config. It is included in many custom roms, can be dl'd too. I also turn off my data when I go to canada by preventing data while roaming - for reasons other than just the aGPS. The only thing I've found with iGo8 is that with aGPS and data off, I typically need to soft reset before using it or it won't get a lock, don't know if this is because it is trying to use old sat info, or because I just got impatient the first couple of times and then began soft resetting after that. But yeah, I would get a lock in about 2-4 minutes with that config, and dropped sats about every 10 mins for 20 seconds or so.

But your testing might also indicate that I don't kneed to turn off aGPS, I can probably just block my data connection and have the same results. I thought that maybe the phone would be "searching" for that assisted information and then maybe not function at all; apparently that's not the case.

Definitely while I'm home in the US I keep aGPS on, and have seconds to a sat lock and almost never drop a signal. I only disabled it cause I was going to Canada.

I did not try simply disabling data but leaving aGPS on, as I assumed it wouldn't work anyways. The next time I go to Canada, I will give this a try, and see if I lose satellites all the time and/or if my TTFF dramatically improves; from what you say, though, it's probably the equivalent of turing aGPS off.
that may be true. it prob can only operate in one mode at one time so it may take time to switch modes or it might take a reset to do so. prob not a huge deal as long as it worked in the end.

With AGPS turned on, I get a lock in 5 seconds or less, and rarely if ever lose GPS. AstroGPSLauncher is what I use, it is great.

The clock resetting issue is fixed if you simply turn of the settings in iGo that automatically update your phone clock to the GPS time server; also set the right time zone in iGO8.

For me, TomTom7 is only better for POIs, that's it. iGO8 has better graphics, UI, options, skins, and routes (for me). And I can use iGO8 out of the country, which is a plus.
Regarding the clock resetting, i have tried your instructions but still resets itself. Its really annoying.

After following your instructions i restarted igo and connecting the GPS and then Igo asked me "do you want to disable auto adjusting the timezone by connecting to the gps server?" (or something along those lines) to which i replied "yes". And then another menu came up asking me to select the right time zone which i then selected appropriate to my region (besides my region never needs timezone corrections anyway)

Please help. How should i avoid this resetting of clock after every softreset?

I use igo 8.0 update 55127. I use mio a701. Wince 5.2

Thanks

@273: Add the following lines to your sys.txt (on your device):

[timezone]
sync_os_timezone=0
reset_os_timezone=0

I have done as you said. There are two sys.txt's. The one in main memory (/program file/igo) and in storage card (/storage card/igo). I've added those lines into both.

Clock still resets.

Please give more ideas. I know there are lots of BRILLIANT minds here.

TIA

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

Here's a Solution for you guys using iGO8 !! AND NO it doesn't need GPS Gate
and PLEASE READ the readMe file, it just doesn't get any easier than this.

Credit to AstronusX for making AstroLauncher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364199

The launcher is basically a 2 in 1 shortcut, it launch Both the AstroLauncher AND the iGO8 at the same time.

I had astrolauncher already but didnt have a link. I tried this link and it solved my incoming call problems. I'll still be testing it. Thanks.

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

I was just made aware of this in the other GPS thread. Uncheck auto timezone stuff and your timezone won't reset. I didn't' have to mess with the sys file.
