Re: Anyone using iGO 8

I am attaching my sys.txt it is still a work in progress. It will enable terrain in 2d, and 3d mode. Enabled a lot more 3d things roads, signs, and etc. Also you can fling the map around just like opera 9 beta with web pages.

If anyone can modify the file and make it better be my guess just reupload so the can enjoy. I will be testing TTS to see if I have installed it correctly as well.

Update:

TTS works great

Features:

Poi dial enabled
Time zone patch
Trips increased to 4
3d building enabled
3d landmarks enabled
3d, 2d terrain enabled
auto time mode enabled
Inertia on map enabled ;able to move app around like Opera 9 beta web pages
gps set to com4, 4800 baud

add option to enable max memory, and reserve memory. Need to uncomment fields and set preferred value.
Cache set to 2048
Removed annoying audio message if gps lost
Removed annoying drive safe announcement
Added estimate calculation when gps signal temporarily lost (tunnels etc)
Option to enable Turns on Smart 2D enabled by default
Ability to change compass type currently set to 3
and more fetures as well to many to explain

Forget about running anything else in the background. Maybe it's time to go back to other options. So iGo 2006 was pretty nice?
Use the sys.txt file I posted in the previous thread, and under the debug section uncomment the 2 lines below it and here you can limit the amount of memory iGo8 can use.

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

I got a chance to play around with IGO8 this morning and I have to say that it's a pretty slick program. Few things that I like about this program is that it refreshes the information constantly including maps, compass, speed, etc. Constantly means that the map movement is very smooth and the compass moves like a real compass does... In contrast to Garmin, map updates are every second making it very jerky.

Text to speech is very slick too. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the voice wasn't robotic at all when pronouncing street names.

I haven't read the manual yet but one of the problems I have is making calls from the program itself. For example, when I found a POI, it shows me the address and phone number. Then along the bottom of the screen, it's got a toolbar like set of icons - one of which is a phone icon - but it's always disabled... hence I cannot make a call from there. I have to memorize the number, press the send-key to bring up the dialer, enter the number and press send to call.

The other thing is that when navigating, it shows a lot of POI's along the route. It's nice to show these POI's but how does one find out what the POI is? For example, I came across a POI with a cross in it. I figured it was some kind of medical thing which I didn't know existed there. I wanted to find out if it was a hospital, dental or whatever, but I couldn't find a quick way of bringing that information up.

Any IGO experts out there that can help me out here?

Thanks.

I am no expert but if you use the sys.txt file I have posted in the previous thread it will allow you to dial a POI #.

Wow, now that is a good tip. How low can you go while maintaining performance? I'll have to do some experimenting.
