I know for a fact its not cached positions, but I do believe that it is not aGPS (in the sense of cell site triangulation) yet. I think as Google Maps starts seeing sats that is gets an approximate location somehow.

When I first open up GMaps, it'll show the last position from when I had it opened, then it'll usually jump to an area close to me (still showing 0 locks), but that can't be a cached position because I was never anywhere near where it puts me...never.

That's the exact same behavior that I saw this morning that led me to believe that the aGPS was finally working. But after a soft reset, I can't get out of Africa!

Re: NO GPS Locks with New Leaked ROM (radio v3.37.10)

So I flashed the Sprint ROM w/ the 3.37.15 radio update. GPS didn't work on it. I cooked up a ROM using the ppckitchen and now GPS doesn't work and my PHONE doesn't work! Data works...

I can make and receive phone calls but the earpiece just doesn't seem to be working. Volume is turned up, etc. Something's weird here...

I think it is AGPS working when it does this. Every time it does it, it's the same position. probably a tower position. I never saw this behavior until I fiddled with GPS Reg settings.

I don't think you can partial GPS positions from Sats that far off and that consistently.

I've also seen it get an assisted position one day and stuck in africa the next.

The assisted stuff seems a little shakey and it doesn't seem to help speed up getting SAT locks. Where it should.

Getting something like TomTom working may not be "Priming". I can't use iGuidance directly, it will run horrible. I always use GPSGate. But I don't consider that "Priming" as it runs through GPSGate continuously and I don't wait for it. I just start GPSGate and start iGuidance and start driving and it will lock in a minute or two.

TomTom folks should try GPSGate, free trial and works very nice. The Virtual COM driver native to WM stinks.

Re: NO GPS Locks with New Leaked ROM (radio v3.37.10)

I used original sprint leaked rom and my gps is working great. I think you need to upgrade to the new radio and install the sprint customization.

I am currently running the actual leaked rom and just reset before the Sprint customizations start. I get a lock within a minute and most times in under 30 seconds. I did not install that gps dll that is mentioned on the first page of the leaked thread. I did make the registry edit \hklm\software\htc\supl agps change GPSMode to 4.

I can't tell you how long it took to get the inital lock. I had just finished installing a bunch of cabs, one of which was GPS today. I dropped the phone into the cradle to sync my contacts. While it was syncing I noticed that the GPSTODAY was blinking and had 7 satellites locked. I have since let the phone go to sleep and when I wake it up and open up GMaps, Live Search or GPSTODAY I get a lock in about 30 seconds. I don't need to kick start anything. Just start anyone of the programs and I get lock. Both Google Maps and Life Search are set to get the gps info from Windows.

I was beginning to think all the success stories were bocus but mine is working great and will alternate between 4 and 8 satelites inside. I have not taken it on a road trip yet.

So far the only issue I have had with the leaked ROM has been the Java with Opera Mini. When ever I cruise to PPCGEEKS.com in hangs after a couple of minutes. I just deleted the appd file in the windows directory and installed an older version of Java and and reinstalled Opera Mini and I have no issues with it. Except for the fact I don't have the Sprint Music store anymore. Little messy and a waste of memory but it will work till the kitchen and roms get dialed in.

Good luck

Re: NO GPS Locks with New Leaked ROM (radio v3.37.10)

There is a lot of confusing and conflicting info on this thread.
FYI - The latest leaked rom from Sprint has radio version 3.37.15, the Official Alltel rom has 3.37.10.
There are several references in here about 3.37.10, or 3.35.15 from Sprint. Again, it's 3.37.15.
Also, based on the first post in this thread, I'm assuming the OP did not update his radio prior to making a custom rom in the kitchen.
The Kitchen will not update your radio.
You need to update your radio 1st. There are 3 options for a radio on the Vogue.
1) Official rom from Alltel - radio version 3.37.10
2) Leaked rom from Sprint - radio version 3.37.15
3) Ported radio from the Titan - radio version 3.35.04

These radios will enable the gps and revA. Different people have different results.
Just trying to clarify.

@ AceszHigh - Where are you at now? If you're using a Sprint Touch, you should be able to go into bootloader, (assuming your on 2.31), and load the leaked rom from Sprint.
Let customizations run, again, only if you're on Sprint, and you're phone should be fine.
Then you can load your custom rom.

Re: NO GPS Locks with New Leaked ROM (radio v3.37.10)

I reflashed my custom ROM, but took out a few things (large titlebar app, SRS WOW drivers OEM, touchflo cube), and now everything except the GPS works. Been running GPSviewer for 30+ minutes now and no fix!

UPDATE: I just got an incoming call as I was writing this (first one since I flashed), and as the call was coming in, gpsviewer got a lock with 4 sat's. Still says "acquiring 3d", but I have never, ever, gotten a 3d lock on this phone with any program or ROM. I also had just changed the registry to gpsmode=4 and the server in mswlogo's signature (but hadn't soft reset yet), so I'm not sure which of these things resulted in me getting the fix, or if it was just coincidence.

Re: NO GPS Locks with New Leaked ROM (radio v3.37.10)

That's really interesting that it started when the call came in. I think I recall folks saying that in early GPS ROM's (i.e. a week ago) that they had to make a call to get things fired up.

Good point. After Reading all ICokeMan's posts about the complexities and interdependencies I made sure that I ran the FULL Leaked ROM first. Customizations and all. There is stuff that occurs there that does stuff to the Radio. And the Radio it was designed for. So even if you want to run you're own cooked ROM, I'd run the FULL Leak ROM first then update the OS if you want (and make sure you don't run customizations that were designed for a different provider or a different Radio).

The Sticky kind of implied to run the full Leaked ROM first.

It takes so long to realize EVERYTHING works, sleep, GPS, sleep text messages, sleep and alarms, signal strength etc. If anything is wrong with a cooked setup it's a whole new flash each time and I assume the Leaked ROM has had some air time before it was leaked. I need a stable phone first and foremost.
