NO GPS Locks with New Leaked ROM (radio v3.37.10)

Hey all,
I just cooked up a ROM using the new kitchen based on the sprint leaked ROM. First time I flashed, I installed that "GPS enable" cab (from the sticky), GPSviewer couldn't even open the COM ports to attempt to look for sat's. Re-flashed without installing that CAB and now gpsviewer switches between "no fix" to "acquiring 3D" (at which point is shows about 4-5 sat's found) every couple seconds or so, but never locks. What's going on here? Should I update the radio?

Re: NO GPS Locks with New Leaked ROM (radio v3.37.10)

I had several issues with the kitchen rom and I could not get GPS to work consistantly with it. I have decided to wait till the kinks get worked out.

I am currently running the actual leaked rom and just reset before the Sprint customizations start. I get a lock within a minute and most times in under 30 seconds. I did not install that gps dll that is mentioned on the first page of the leaked thread. I did make the registry edit \hklm\software\htc\supl agps change GPSMode to 4.

I can't tell you how long it took to get the inital lock. I had just finished installing a bunch of cabs, one of which was GPS today. I dropped the phone into the cradle to sync my contacts. While it was syncing I noticed that the GPSTODAY was blinking and had 7 satellites locked. I have since let the phone go to sleep and when I wake it up and open up GMaps, Live Search or GPSTODAY I get a lock in about 30 seconds. I don't need to kick start anything. Just start anyone of the programs and I get lock. Both Google Maps and Life Search are set to get the gps info from Windows.

I was beginning to think all the success stories were bocus but mine is working great and will alternate between 4 and 8 satelites inside. I have not taken it on a road trip yet.

So far the only issue I have had with the leaked ROM has been the Java with Opera Mini. When ever I cruise to PPCGEEKS.com in hangs after a couple of minutes. I just deleted the appd file in the windows directory and installed an older version of Java and and reinstalled Opera Mini and I have no issues with it. Except for the fact I don't have the Sprint Music store anymore. Little messy and a waste of memory but it will work till the kitchen and roms get dialed in.

Good luck

Does the leaked rom update the radio or do you still have to flash the Altell rom first?

Just Flash 3.35.15 Sprint Radio and then Try its Kitchen

This is Solve the Problem

The leaked Rom includes a radio update. The GPS works out of the gate without having to install anything (and at least for me, works much better than any of the prior attempts).

TomTom still needs to be primed though...

How to get GPS to work with the leaked rom! first, run gps viewer, com port 4, baudrate 4800, click open gps, then go to GPS Status, wait for 2 or 3 sat, after this, run quick gps and it will lock the sat for you. It takes 5 to 10 secs everytime i tried it. It works for, it should work for you. I use sprint navigator, tomtom and they both work great.

I don't prime with anything on any ROM. The whole priming thing is a myth in my opinion.

That said, it appears most Navigation apps will only use Sat positions even if an Assisted Position is available. Some apps like Google Maps will show an assisted position while waiting for sats. Some apps that use or display an assisted position make visual progress sooner (which make the user feel better :-)). But it still takes just as long for the sats to come on line.

Your best "primer" is a clear view of the sky for apps that require Sats.

I second this. GPS works much better than with the alltel rom. Coldstart updates less than a minute most times, even inside buildings.

Myth, hah? Try running TomTom after a reset!

Granted, "priming" may not be the best term for it, but it definately took another app to open communications before TomTom would see the GPS.

And I still maintain that Google Maps will show cached position, not assisted...
