I know I had assist working on the Altel ROM (and required all 3 things to fix, new GPS DLL's, GPSMode=4 and Sprint Server IP/Port).

I'd go to work, fire it up it would almost immediately (10 seconds) position me several blocks away. And a minute or two later SATs would come on line with pin point location.

Then I'd go home and it would do the same thing. Position a few blocks away then spot on with sats.

Sometimes it would jump to off the coast of nigeria and back again to the assisted position.

With Leaked ROM I have not seen an assisted position yet. It sits off the coast of nigeria or last cached position until sats come online. Sats are coming online at reasonable rates though. I'll try one more time at work and if I see no assist I'm gonna try the "new" GPS DLL's again.

Re: Bingo !!! I finally have assisted GPS whoohoo

I have made the changes on my Bell Touch with JD's stock rom and these are my results. In the past I could always get a lock in 3-4 minutes. It still takes 3-4 minutes but now I lock on to 5-7 sats, before the maxium was 3 sats. In both situations within the first minute I would get an approximate lock and it is was always the same Bell cell phone tower about 1/2 mile from my house.

Re: Bingo !!! I finally have assisted GPS whoohoo

Finally got to test at my work location which seems to reliably get a GPS Assist position while while it waits for SATs and the it is working. I am running completely stock Leaked ROM except the registry changes for IP/PORT/MODE.

Re: Bingo !!! I finally have assisted GPS whoohoo

Finally works for me as well!

In my office, I was never able to get a lock/location fix with Google. Not with any of the roms or combination of "fixes".

With the stock leaked rom and the sprint server registry changes, today, for the first time, Google can actually locate me within a few hundred yards of my office!

UPDATE/EDIT: looks like I got excited a bit too early. After a soft reset, google again shows me at 0/0. Looks like it was caching the last location that GPStoday was able to get a fix.

So still no AGPS...

Did you do the GPS Registry edits? GPSMode=4 and IP/Port (depending on if your on sprint)?

Yes - that's what made me believe it was finally working.

But just as with every rom before, a soft reset in my office magically teleports me to Africa

Re: Bingo !!! I finally have assisted GPS whoohoo

Where can I find GPS .dll's? I have seen mention of them but not where they came from. I have tried the posted fix (without gps dll's) it improved my locks but what is this gps.dll?

If you are running the new Leaked ROM or derivative you shouldn't need them and you shouldn't need KickStart (Also mention in same thread).

But they are in this thread.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25407

They may be tricky to install on top and little tricky to remove but doable to experiment with.

Re: Bingo !!! I finally have assisted GPS whoohoo

do you guys really think that alternate agps server/port does anything? i can't ping that ip but i can ping the default one. this leads me to believe that the sprint one everyone claims is helping is not even functional.
