Re: Bingo !!! I finally have assisted GPS whoohoo

OK, I'm running my own cooked ROM from the leaked Sprint one. As far as I have read, it seems that it doesn't require me to do anything with the DLLs.

I changed the GPSMode to 4 and did a soft reset, but I'm still getting 10+ minute lock-times from a cold start. I also tried the IP/Port changes, but it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference.

Any ideas on other things I can try to speed up the fix?

You can ping it from the Sprint Network. Actually you can Telnet to the exact port.

You can't access it if you are not on Sprint.

So I think with the Process of GPS DLL's mostly I tried GPSMode=4

GPSMode=1 Does not use Assist.
GPSMode=2 (Default) Uses Data (Assist) and Sats but is exclusive (not sure if Data link is up it can't use assist but when I use it, it does not assist).
GPSMode=4 Uses Data (Assist) and Sats not exclusive (might be less accurate during assist phase but it works).

So with a fairly stable ROM starting in Nigiera and Jumping to Spot on with GPSMode=2 I switched it to GPSMode=4 and bingo. While I wait for Sats I'm bouncing around my ZIP code getting slowly closer to my location but never spot on. Then the Sats come on line.

This mode is discussed in several threads (and probably baked in to some of the Cooked ROMS) but I thought it deserved it's own Thread. Especially for those using Stock AllTel ROM with nothing baked.

I attached a Registry Script of all my Registry GPS settings. They are stock settings expect for GPSMode change to mode 4.
I'm confused.. your sig has a different IP address then this registry file.. which one is hte right one?

Thanks,
-mark

Sorry your right. When I posted the first file I had not tried the IP address change and dumped the whole section.

If your on Sprint I'd try the IP and Port that's in my Sig, if not on Sprint just try GPSMode=4

You need to Telnet to that port to see if it works. Pings rely on ICMP which may be disabled...
