has anyone come up with the cause for this issue yet? i've recently had the problem arise out of the blue. I've had the phone for a few weeks, installed some 3rd party apps. Everything was fine and it started happening. Pretty frustrating ](*,)

Koolaid 12-20-2007 02:16 AM

I received mine on 12/16 and started having the same problem almost immediately. So far about 4 times, twice when original, twice with the ICS registry hack. Also missed a couple calls without getting notice. Manufacture date of 11/20

I unchecked the Advanced Power Settings and soft reset.

Have not had a problem with it waking up since those changes.

Do you hit the power button once to put it to sleep when you are not using it, or do you just leave the screen on all the time?

BTW - my missed calls problem coincided with Sprint activating EV in my area - things were fine on 1X...

It looks like it was the Automatic setting because when I switched it back to Normal (for the ringer) or Vibrate, my texts and calls woke up my phone fine.

Just something to try.

Interesting. The auto setting as I understand it is to prevent firing of alerts, etc. while a meeting, etc. is in progress. Might it be that this is working exactly as intended--with alerts following the end of a meeting, task, etc.?

I have been testing both hitting the button to turn off the screen and letting it turn off the screen after a one minute delay. Thus far, no issues since I unchecked the Advanced Power Settings and soft reset.

dequardo 12-20-2007 04:11 PM

I'm confused. Doesn't unchecking these boxes prevent the phone from shutting off automatically?

I got the same date and mine does it also about 1 -2 times a day , I am going to return it for a new one I am still in the 30 day period:)

Anyone have any fixes yet? Just started happening to my phone after 1.5 months of flawless use.

jramos402 12-26-2007 05:35 PM

I dont know if this is a solution or anything but it seems to have done the trick for me. Ive been sitting here for over a hour messing around in the registry changing values here and there in places I think the problem may lie and placing test calls to see If it will wake my phone up correctly. Nothing seemed to work until I went to: HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/HTCHomeplug/PowerIconSlot. The original value was 0 so i changed it to 1. Did a soft reset but it changed back to 0. So I changed it to 1 again and didnt soft reset and placed a test call to my phone and VOILA!!!! It worked and all before the second ring. Ive had it like this for over 45 minutes and placed numerous test calls plus Ive had people calling me and now that its working correctly Im not missing any calls. Its waking up just fine. Hope this helps somebody and please post your results. Oh and by the way Im using a Mogul.

Edit: I think this would apply for those with the HTC Home Customizer and Plugin on their phone as that is where I did most of my messing around at because Ive noticed that when I installed the program is when I started having the problem and also that many people running that app are having the same issue.

efunk33 12-26-2007 06:02 PM

To me it sounds like it is related to this not waking up thing when the phone is under 30%. Something is going wrong with this function and it is happening whatever the power level is.

If we can find this in the registry and just turn it off completely, Id be willing to bet this fixes the problem.

Are you sure about that registry path? I don't even have that entry on my Touch.

He did say that was on his mogul...

What do you think about my post above about finding that 30% battery registry?

I've heard rumors (unsubstantiated) about HTC programming the phone to reject incoming calls when the battery level drops below 30%. I've tested it myself and I can receive calls with 10% battery remaining. Either there is no such setting or I have a defective Touch that works great. I don't think that there's any validity to that theory and instead think that it's directly related to either network issues or the same sleep problem that's leading to corrupted SD cards. Both problems plague the Mogul and the Touch so it sounds like a sleep-state bug introduced by HTC.

My phone never gets stuck in sleep mode, but all the sudden after 1.5 months of flawless use, my phone doesn't wake up to get calls/texts... I did uncheck the 2 options in the advanced battery section and it has stopped for now. But it has only been 1.2 a day so far, so we will see.

I do believe, however, that this is something that can be fixed and we shouldnt just give up on such a sweet phone just yet.

What do you think about updating the IOTA session to update the vision? Ive read some stuff about this HTC problem with others phones, and many people believed it happened when the phone switched from 1X to EV while in sleep.

Grymlock 12-26-2007 10:17 PM

I have spent most of the night reading this thread. I have had my Touch since 12/21 and like most it replaced my Mogul because of various issues. The manufacture data is 12/2 and I have experienced the problem once and I had to do a soft reset. I have the following 3rd party packages installed:

Marsware WeatherPanel
DBH Slide2Unlock Pro
MS Voice Command 1.6
Resco Explorer with Registry Add-In
Microsoft Money
iCube
OZ Instant Messaging
Handmark OnDemand
Sprint TV
MS Live Search

I am not sure of the 30% rule because I just recieved a call and 2 text messages waking up my phone with only 10% battery left.

My ringer file was on my memory card and after the lockup I moved it to the device and since then I have not had any issues. It has been 3 days with no issues.

One other thing I did do was I took the phone into the repair center and had them update it to the latest PRL on the 22nd. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or not but thought it was worth the mention.

The registry key you are referring to is not the same today plugin the HTC Home Customizer works on. HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/HTCHomeplug/ is the plugin that comes on the Mogul by default. HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/HTCHome is the one that was taken from another device and ported to work on other WM6 devices. HTCHome is the one with the digital clock and tabs.

I've always used the quick menu and never had the missed call problem. I've never used the HTC Home plug-in though. Date and Calendar are the only two things that are active on my Today screen.

fuuup 12-27-2007 05:12 PM

Had my touch switched out for one manufactured on 12/4/07 and the problem is gone.

What was your original build date again? Mine is 10/6/07 and no problems here. Maybe a poll relating build date to wake-up/missed call issues?

MrOuija36 12-28-2007 05:42 PM

my manufactuer date is 10-16-07 and have yet to have this issue...

yet i immediatly disable the quick menu and i also use S2U2

Is this problem affecting all versions of the Touch (including the "Enhanced" GSM version with 128MB/256MB of memory)?

If I disable the Quick Menu, is there any other easy way to get back to open programs, other than re-opening them?

Data connection when charging

I have seen this problem on my Touch a few times a while ago when I first got it back in November. It appeared to me that it only occurred after I took it off the charger. One thing I suspected was whether an active data connection was up when I plugged it into the charger. I haven't seen this problem for about 3-4 weeks now, and I haven't done any of the changes mentioned in this thread. My Touch is pretty much stock as far as the today app and Sprint apps are concerned. That's actually why I joined this forum...

What I have been doing, that may have addressed this is to make sure that the phone has no data connection up when I plug it into the wall charger. I also let it go to sleep (or press the power button) before plugging it into the wall charger. Syncing/charging never seemed to affect it

One other thing that I remember doing a while ago when I first got the phone, was to change some of the items shown on the today screen. I found that I didn't like what I had changed, and changed it back. One of the changes that I did keep was to remove the HTC Home Sprint bar. Perhaps this or just changing them (and writing the associated items to the registry) fixes the problem. FWIW I have HTC Home, Calendar, Messaging, and SMS on the Today screen.

sidwin 01-06-2008 04:00 PM

wtf is a phone good for if i can't use it to answer phone calls! i disabled all of my htc stuff.. xbutton and 4 tab. problem went away for two weeks but has now returned. i'm to the point i'm think i rather just have the phone never to go into sleep mode if that is the case and just have the phone buttons locked. i've tried changing sci from 2 to 1 and today i'm going for 0. we'll report back.
thanks,
sid

trehouse 01-15-2008 12:24 PM

I had this problem for the past couple of weeks. After lurking in this forum and nothing else fixed my problem I went into settings / memory / running programs and I killed Activesync. Maybe something was hung up with it. The problem has gone away and hasn't come back so far. I'm again syncing fine after doing this. The only other thing I had done was remove Pocket Mechanic but it was still messed up after that.

I was thinking it could also have something to do with the Resco Explorer Today plugin (or app itself) as my wife has a touch with the home customizer app and dosen't seem to be having any issues......

Over at sprintusers.com someone posted the hack to save message to storage card and had in bold letters (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR HTC TOUCH)
-causes storage card corruption.

I said that to say this...

I have SKTOOLS and never had a problem with my SD card until I used the Tune-up feature to have my messages saved on the Storage Card! He may be onto something. Since then I reformatted my card and copied my folders back onto it (had my folders copied on my pc prior to corruption) since then... no problems.

My question to you is...

Are you using sktools tune-up to have messages/email saved on the storage card and if so, is it that important to you because I would suggest reversing it back to the device and see how that works for ya. That's my $0.02

ohbugger 01-26-2008 06:08 PM

Ok, I would like to sum up the previous 16 pages, since I just read them all.

This problem has nothing to do with third party apps. Nothing to do with manufactured date (mine is 12/4, and I have this issue). Doing a soft reset solves this issue for a short time for me, but it comes back, as if Windows Mobile just bogs down so much that it can't wake up for incoming calls.

I have browsed multiple forums and read a lot of opinions and suggestions. And all I can tell you is there is NO solution for this issue out there. People say replacement phones have worked great, but then what about the people who've used it for a month without an issue and then all of a sudden it comes up?

My own theory at this stage of the game is that this might have to do with running programs that are in memory all the top (today screen) from the SD card. Ok, I admit that I might be totally off here, but I will give it a shot myself... and install Quickmenu, iLauncher etc etc to the phone's memory.

dequardo 01-26-2008 07:39 PM

You contradict yourself re; 3rd party apps. The way to rule that out is to hard-reset, install NOTHING and use it for 'x' weeks.
